One Dead, Two Injured Following Attempted Robbery Attempt In W. Melbourne
(West Melbourne, FL)-- One man is dead and two others are injured following Saturday's home invasion attempted robbery in West Melbourne,. Police say the suspects, described as men in their 20s, broke into a unit in the Reserves of Melbourne apartment complex in the 22-hundred block of Launch Court shortly before 2:30 a.m. and found themselves confronted by an armed resident. The resident, who was not injured in the confrontation, shot all three would-be robbers.
DeSantis Suspends State Scholarships For Florida Schools Linked To China
(Undated) -- Governor Ron DeSantis is suspending state school-choice scholarships linked to four Florida private schools state authorities say have "direct ties to the Chinese Communist Party." Administration sources say the governor signed legislation in May that bars the state from participating in school scholarship programs linked to entities owned or controlled by foreign governments. Schools affected by the order include Lower and Upper Sagemont Preparatory Schools in Weston, Parke House Academy in Winter Park, and Park Maitland School in Winter Park. In a statement, DeSantis said the state would "not allow Floridians' tax dollars to go to schools that are connected to our foreign adversaries."
Orange County Deputies Kill Man In Shooting
(Orlando, FL)-- A man is dead after he was shot by deputies in Orange County. It happened yesterday morning on Suncreek Court.The sheriff's office says deputies were told there was a man firing his gun at passing cars and threatening his roommate. Deputies arrived at the home and when the man came outside, he was Tased. That's when the man allegedly pulled a gun and fired.Sheriff John Mina says deputies returned fire, and the man died at the scene. He has not been identified, but Mina says he's in his 30s or 40s. The FDLE is investigating.
Sanford Police Looking For Man Who Tried To Kidnap Child
(Sanford, FL)-- A search is underway to find a man who tried to kidnap a girl in Seminole County. Sanford Police say Jerral Wynn grabbed a girl's backpack Friday near Fifth Street and Avocado Ave. The girl ran away and was not hurt. The 23-year-old Wynn also allegedly exposed himself. Police Chief Cecil Smith says Wynn's behavior is beyond disgusting, and we need to get him off the streets immediately before he victimizes another child.
Marion County Man Arrested For Child Solicitation
(Ocala, FL)-- Thanks to a vigilant mother, a Marion County man is behind bars for soliciting her underage daughter for sex. Ocala Police arrested 39-year-old Jerry Aguilar on Friday for allegedly sending inappropriate texts to a 13-year-old girl. Police say the girl's mother found the messages after checking her daughter's phone. Police say Aguilar was a coach with access to children, and they fear there may be more victims. They also credit the girl's mother for taking action, and they encourage all parents to know who their children are communicating with.
Authorities ID Victim Whose Body Was Found With Huge Gator, Friday In Largo
(Largo, FL)-- Authorities are releasing the identity of a woman whose body was spotted with a large alligator on Friday. Florida Fish and Wildlife officials announced yesterday that the body had been ID'd as that of a 41-year-old Sabrina Peckham. Jamarcus Bullard of Largo spotted the gator and Peckham's body in the water adjacent to 134th Avenue North on Friday and immediately notified authorities. Wardens later located and "humanely killed' the almost-14-foot-long animal and subsequently discovered Peckham's remains. Investigators are trying to determine whether the gator killed Peckham or merely found her body.
$10,000 Bill From 1934 Sells For Big Bucks At Auction
(Dallas, TX)-- A rare ten-thousand-dollar bill from the Great Depression has sold at auction for 480-thousand dollars. Heritage Auctions of Dallas says the large-denomination U.S. note was printed in Boston in 1934, and features the face of Abraham Lincoln's Secretary of Treasury Salmon P. Chase. The auction house says the bill is of exceptional quality, and noted that this month's winning bid broke the record for a ten-thousand-dollar bill from 1934.
