Heat Advisory Posted For Central Florida
(Melbourne, FL) --It'll be a dangerously hot day in Central Florida. The National Weather Service has a Heat Advisory in effect from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.Heat index values up to 112 are expected, and that could cause heat illness. The NWS advises drinking plenty of fluids, staying in an air-conditioned room, staying out of the sun and checking on relatives and neighbors.
Brightline Delaying Orlando-Miami Service
(Orlando, FL) --Brightline's Orlando to Miami passenger train service won't start as scheduled. The company announced yesterday that service will be delayed up two weeks to September 15th. It was originally expected to start September First, and those who bought tickets will get refunds. Brightline blames the delay on issues with certification and crew testing.
NASA, Boeing Announce Delay Of Starliner Mission
(Cape Canaveral, FL) -- Plans to send more astronauts to the International Space Station are on hold again.NASA and Boeing announced yesterday that the Starliner mission may not launch until March 2024. Officials originally hoped it would launch this past April, but that was pushed back to July. The latest delay is because of issues with the parachute system and tape that may be flammable. The Starliner capsule will carry two astronauts on an Atlas V rocket on a test flight to the ISS.
Multi-Million Dollar Tampa Bay Theft Ring Shut Down
(Tampa, FL) -- Five people are facing felony charges in connection to a years-long Tampa Bay theft ring. Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody says the suspects stole over five-million dollars worth of merchandise from Home Depot stores across seven counties and sold the items on eBay. Officials believe Pinellas County Pastor Robert Dell led the operation for more than a decade. His two family members Karen and Jaclyn Dell were also among those arrested.
More Than 50 Arrested During Florida Human Trafficking Sting
(Jacksonville, FL) -- Dozens of people in Northeast Florida are accused of human trafficking following an operation led by the FBI. More than 30 suspects were arrested in a two-day undercover investigation in Jacksonville and another 24 were taken into custody in a three-day Nassau County sting. They were both part of a national human trafficking initiative spear-headed by federal agents, known as Operation Cross Country.At least five victims were rescued and two missing children were located in Florida during the investigation.
NJ Only State Where Drivers Can't Pump Gas
(Trenton, NJ) -- New Jersey is now the only state in the U.S where drivers can't pump their own gas.It comes as lawmakers in Oregon voted to end the ban on self-serve gas and Governor Tina Kotek signed off on it, ending the state's 72-year ban. Gas stations across New Jersey have pushed for lawmakers to lift the ban, which has been in effect since 1949. They say self-serve gas would allow them to lower the prices.
