Fifth Suspect Arrested For Hollywood Broadwalk Shooting

(Hollywood, FL) --The last suspect wanted for a mass shooting in Broward County is now in custody. Eighteen-year-old Lionel JeanCharles, Jr. surrendered to Hollywood Police yesterday afternoon. He's the fifth person arrested for the Memorial Day shooting on the Broadwalk that left nine people hurt. One victim is still in the hospital in stable condition. JeanCharles is facing charges that include attempted first-degree murder.The other four suspects include two 18-year-olds, a 16-year-old and a 15-year-old. Police believe the shooting happened during an argument between two groups.

Volusia County Woman Arrested For Child Abuse

(DeLand, FL) --A Volusia County woman wanted for child abuse is now in custody. The sheriff's office announced yesterday that DeLand 28-year-old Taylor Schaefer was arrested in Pasco County. Boyfriend Shawn Stone was arrested last month on abuse and neglect charges involving a five-year-old boy. Deputies say the couple showed a brutal pattern of child neglect, abuse and torture toward three kids that lived in the home on Valley Forge Road. Stone and Schaefer are each facing dozens of charges.Over 500 people have donated about 32-thousand dollars to a GoFundMe account for the children.  

Four Pinellas County Men Arrested For Murder

(Clearwater, FL) --Four men are in custody after a murder in Pinellas County. Sheriff Bob Gualtieri announced yesterday three Largo men and a Pinellas Park man were arrested for shooting a 20-year-old man to death in April in Largo on Ulmerton Road. All are facing charges that include first-degree murder. The alleged victim had traveled to the county from Jacksonville with 40-thousand dollars to buy drugs. Gualtieri says the suspects planned to rob him. Three of the suspects were arrested in Las Vegas, and the fourth was arrested in Virginia. Gualtieri says all have extensive arrest records.    

DeSantis Suspends North Miami Beach Mayor

(North Miami Beach, FL) -- The mayor of North Miami Beach is suspended. Governor Ron DeSantis yesterday signed an executive order suspending Anthony DeFillipo. The mayor was arrested last week for illegal voting. State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle accuses him of living in Davie last year while voting three times in North Miami Beach. The state senate could remove him from office, and the 51-year-old could get 15 years in prison. DeFillipo's lawyer tells NBC 6 his client expects to be fully exonerated from these politically motivated false charges.   

State Commission Finds Flaws In Judge Who Oversaw Nikolas Cruz Trial

(Miami, FL) --The judge in Nikolas Cruz' trial is accused of letting her emotions overcome her judgment. That's what the Judicial Qualifications Commission concludes in a report released yesterday. Circuit Court Judge Elizabeth Scherer presided over Cruz' sentencing trial in Broward County last year. The 24-year-old Cruz wound up getting a life sentence for the deadly Parkland school shooting in 2018. The commission found Scherer was biased toward prosecutors, and she should be publicly reprimanded. Last month, the 46-year-old announced she'll retire June 30th after more than a decade on the bench.

Allstate Drops Property Insurance in CA

(San Diego, CA) --Another insurance company is dropping property insurance in California. Allstate says it's too expensive to insure new home customers in California. The company blames wildfires, higher costs to repair homes, and higher reinsurance premiums.State Farm made a similar announcement last month. According to Cal Fire, more than seven-thousand wildfires burned in California in 2022, damaging or destroying more than 800 structures. Last year, the California Insurance Commissioner submitted new regulations, requiring insurance companies to provide discounts to consumers and other protections, including larger payouts and less red tape. Insurers say the new rules make it more challenging to quickly adjust prices during high inflation.

DE Principal Pranked In Her Own Home

(Middletown, DE) --Seniors at a Delaware high school have pulled off the ultimate senior prank. According to the TODAY Show, the students devised a plan to stay up past their bedtime, sneak into their principal's home and hideout until she woke up one morning. The principal of St. Andrew's School was shocked to find out her husband was in on the prank and let them in hours earlier. They all had breakfast together before going back to their real homes.
