Plane That Crashed In Virginia Was Registered In Brevard County

(Melbourne, FL)-- The plane that caused a scare over DC has ties to Brevard County. The Cessna 560 Citation V that violated US airspace yesterday over Washington, DC is registered to Melbourne's Encore Motors.Military jets were sent to intercept the plane when the pilot didn't respond to radio transmissions. The plane wound up crashing in Virginia.Barbara and John Rumpel own the plane.Florida Today reports that Barbara wrote online that her daughter and granddaughter are gone. John Rumpel tells the Washington Post a nanny was also on the plane.   

Volusia County Couple Face Child Abuse Charges

(DeLand, FL)-- A search is underway to find a Volusia County woman accused of abusing her child. The sheriff's office announced last week that DeLand's Taylor Schaefer and boyfriend Shawn Stone are facing about 50 charges of abuse and neglect against Schaefer's five-year-old son. Deputies say the boy was tied up for hours, put in a dog cage, deprived of food and beaten.Investigators believe a nine-year-old and a seven-year-old in the home were also abused. The 32-year-old Stone was arrested last month. Deputies are looking for the 28-year-old Schaefer.

Fourth Arrest Made For Hollywood Shooting

(Hollywood, FL)-- Police in Broward County are getting closer to finding all those responsible for a mass shooting. Hollywood Police last night arrested a fourth suspect in last week's shooting on the Broadwalk. All four are facing charges that include attempted second-degree murder. Nine people were hurt. Two are still in the hospital in stable condition. Police are looking for one more suspect.    

Recreational Marijuana Amendment Qualifies For 2024 Ballot

(Tallahassee, FL)-- Florida voters could very well decide if recreational marijuana should be legal in the Sunshine State. The state Division of Elections said on Thursday that backers of a proposed constitutional amendment has gathered more than enough petition signatures to put the question on the November, 2024 ballot. It will now be up to the Florida Supreme Court to decide whether the initiative meets legal requirements to go before voters. Opponents of legal recreational marijuana have until June 12th to submit briefs to the court and supporters will have until July 5th to respond.

SpaceX Launch Planned For Today

(Cape Canaveral, FL)-- A SpaceX launch could take place today. The company is planning to launch a Falcon 9 rocket at 11:47 this morning from Kennedy Space Center. The rocket will carry a Dragon spacecraft full of supplies for the International Space Station. Saturday's launch was scrubbed due to high winds. Launch conditions today are 60 percent Go.

Las Vegas Opens First Cannabis-Friendly Hotel

(Las Vegas)-- Las Vegas has opened its first cannabis-friendly hotel. "The Lexi Hotel," close to the Strip, is a first for Sin City. Developers say the 64-room property is the only cannabis-inclusive property in town.The Lexi will feature guest rooms and suites with the entire fourth floor designated for those who enjoy smoking weed. That floor has a new air filtration system, according to the hotel CEO. 

Miami-Dade Girl Scout Opens Own Library

(Miami, FL)-- A Miami-Dade County Girl Scout is doing her part to keep kids reading this summer. Eleven-year-old Jaaliyah [[juh-LEE-uh]] Powell cut the ribbon yesterday on a library she formed herself in Liberty City. The Shine Bright Outdoor Library on Northwest 50th Street consists of over one thousand donated books. Miami-Dade Police donated about 200 books. Mayor Francis Suarez and City Commission Chairwoman Christine King each donated a thousand dollars. Powell is a junior Girl Scout, and her troop leader tells 7News Powell did an amazing, amazing job.

1968, Senator Robert F. Kennedy was shot by an assassin while campaigning for the Democratic U.S. presidential nomination in California. He died the next day. Gunman Sirhan Sirhan was arrested for the attack.
