Osceola County Deputy Arrested For Helping Suspect

(Kissimmee, FL) -- A Central Florida deputy is off the job after he reportedly helped a suspect avoid being arrested. The Osceola County Sheriff's Office says Arturo Dominguez was taken into custody for helping a high school coach who was accused of sexually abusing a student.The suspect, identified as Omar Ayala, is reportedly a childhood friend of Dominguez. He worked as a soccer coach at Okeechobee High School and is still at-large. Dominquez was fired after two years with the department.

Judge Disqualifies Himself From DeSantis-Disney Lawsuit

(Orlando, FL)-- The governor can claim a small legal victory in his fight against Disney.Federal judge Mark Walker yesterday disqualified himself from the lawsuit Disney filed against the state.Governor Ron DeSantis' legal team filed a motion last month asking for Walker to step down from the case.DeSantis' lawyers claim Walker has a pro-Disney bias. Walker denies that, but he decided to disqualify himself because a relative owns Disney stock.  A replacement judge has already been named. Disney claims in the suit that DeSantis retaliated against the company for its opposition to the Parental Rights in Education law. 

Coast Guard Suspends Search For Missing Cruise Ship Passenger

(Jacksonville, FL) -- The search for a cruise ship passenger who went overboard off Florida's east coast is on hold. The U.S. Coast Guard suspended their rescue efforts for 35-year-old Ronnie Peale Junior yesterday. Officials say Peale fell over the side of the Carnival Magic about 186 miles east of Jacksonville on Monday morning. The ship was heading toward the Bahamas, but has since returned to its Virginia port.Crews have searched more than five-thousand square miles since Peale disappeared. 

School Buses To Install Cameras To Catch Drivers Who Illegally Pass

(Tallahassee, FL) -- Florida school district will be able to crackdown on drivers who illegally pass their buses under a new law. The measure signed into law yesterday would allow school buses to install cameras in order to catch drivers who pass them while they are stopped. Violators could face fines of more than two-hundred dollars.Districts who want to participate will have to keep track of the data from the system. The law will go into effect next month.

Brevard County Woman Arrested After Child's Hot Car Death

(Palm Bay, FL)-- A Brevard County woman is facing charges in her child's hot car death.Palm Bay's Bulaine [[byew-lane]] Molme [[mole-may]] was arrested yesterday for aggravated manslaughter of a child. Police say the 37-year-old left her 11-month-old daughter in her car for three hours Sunday outside Mount of Olives Evangelical Church on Babcock Street.Molme is co-pastor, and she apparently told police she was late for the service and thought another parishioner had brought the baby inside. It wasn't until the service was over that Molme realized her child was still in the car.

Car Stolen While Child Is Inside In Volusia County

(Holly Hill, FL)-- A search is underway to find the suspect who stole an SUV with a child inside in Volusia County. The sheriff's office says a male between 15 and 20-years-old stole the SUV yesterday morning in Holly Hill. A woman apparently parked the SUV in a driveway and left a two-year-old boy asleep in the backseat while she went inside the home to pick something up.That's when the thief got in the driver's seat and took off. The child was dropped off, unharmed, at an auto body shop on State Ave and returned to his family. The thief and the SUV remain unaccounted for. 

FAMU Students Suing Florida Board Of Governors

(Tallahassee, FL)-- Florida A&M students will have to amend their discrimination lawsuit against the state. A group of six students is suing the Florida Board of Governors for unequal funding, and a hearing was held yesterday. The judge gave the plaintiff's lawyers 30 days to make changes to their initial filing.The students are asking for over a billion dollars to bring its funding equal to the University of Florida. The state says the funding levels have nothing to do with race, but an FAMU student tells WCTV it's not fair they're denied the same opportunities as another school that has every opportunity in the world.

Seminole County School Offers Refunds For LGBTQ Terms In Yearbook

(Sanford, FL)-- A Seminole County school is trying to satisfy parents that are offended by a yearbook's content. Lyman High School's yearbook contains two pages with LGBTQ terms, and the district recently told News 6 four parents have complained that it's inappropriate.Parents were told Wednesday they can return the yearbook for a refund or exchange it for one that doesn't contain those pages. Danielle Pomeranz is a teacher and yearbook adviser at LHS, and she tells WESH 2 News she has a real problem with the fact that the school is willing to silence the LGBTQ community.        

Dedicated 8th Graders Earns College Scholarship

(St. Louis, MO)-- A young boy is getting a college scholarship after walking six miles to his eighth grade graduation. Fourteen-year-old Xavier Jones was determined to walk across the stage to get his diploma, but he didn't have a ride to North St. Louis City to Harris Stowe University.That's when Xavier convinced his brother and a friend to join him on the long walk. Harris Stowe president Doctor Latonia Collins Smith told News 4 school officials were so moved by his dedication that they presented Xavier with a full scholarship, which also covers books and fees, once he finishes high school.
