FHSAA Approves Form That Includes Assigned Gender At Birth

(Gainesville, FL)-- A new high school physical evaluation form that includes "gender assigned at birth" has been approved. The Florida High School Athletics Association also approved removing questions about menstrual history from the form. The removal of the menstrual history questions came after protests from parents, students and medical professionals. The association's sports medicine committee recommended in January to keep the questions, but was overruled Thursday.

Brevard County Man Arrested On Child Porn Charges

(Melbourne, FL)-- A perceptive plumber is credited with leading police to a child porn suspect in Brevard County. Melbourne Police say George White was arrested Wednesday after they found over 900 child porn images on his computer. Police say a plumber working at White's home noticed the images on White's computer and contacted the police department. The 63-year-old White reportedly confessed that he has been viewing child porn for 14 years. White's name may be familiar to some as he used to be a reporter for Florida Today.

Volusia County Hospital Shooter Due In Court

(Daytona Beach, FL)-- A woman who killed her husband in a Volusia County hospital is due in court today. New Smyrna Beach's Ellen Gilland is charged with first-degree murder for last month's shooting at AdventHealth Daytona Beach. The 76-year-old shot her terminally-ill husband in what police believe was supposed to be a murder-suicide, but she couldn't pull the trigger on herself. Gilland is being held without bond, but she'll ask a judge today to reverse that decision.

Tallahassee Man Charged With Six Armed Robberies In A Week

(Tallahassee, FL)-- A Tallahassee man is facing charges for a string of armed robberies. The US Justice Department announced yesterday that a federal grand jury indicted Keshawn Robinson for six armed robberies in a week back in November. The 21-year-old allegedly committed three armed robberies in one day. He could get up to 20 years in prison for each robbery. 

Three Arrested In Attack On Police Officers

(El Portal, FL)-- A teenager and two women are accused of attacking two police officers in Miami-Dade County.  Police say a Miami-Dade Public Schools Officer was trying to arrest the 13-year-old yesterday for a fight at Horace Mann Middle School in El Portal when he and another officer were attacked. Cellphone video also shows an officer pulling the teen to the ground. The teen is a student at the school, and one of the women arrested is her older sister. 7News reports the officers were treated at the scene and did not go to the hospital. The teen's mother tells NBC 6 one of the officers was hitting her daughter.

Jacksonville Mayoral Candidate Sues Over "False" Ad

(Jacksonville, FL)-- A candidate in the Republican primary for mayor of Jacksonville is suing three TV stations over a "false" ad. Daniel Davis calls the ad "defamatory," saying it falsely portrays him as "dirty" and that he "won't protect children," according to the legal filing. The ad is paid for Jax First, which is backing an opposing candidate in the primary. The lawsuit alleges that Davis's attorney previously informed the stations' parent company about the ad and would take legal action if it aired. The three stations that aired the ad are Action News Jax, First Coast News and News4Jax.

House Approves Abolishing Reedy Creek Improvement District

(Tallahassee, FL)-- Disney is a step closer to losing its power to govern itself. House lawmakers in Tallahassee yesterday approved replacing the Reedy Creek Improvement District with a five-member board appointed by the governor. St. Cloud State Rep. Fred Hawkins sponsored the bill, and he says it's not a repeal of the Reedy Creek District but a way to ensure the company doesn't have an unfair advantage over its competitors. The bill needs to pass the state senate before the governor can sign it into law. 

Tampa Senator Proposes Permitless Carry Bill

(Tallahassee, FL)-- A Tampa lawmaker is behind a new gun bill. Tampa State Senator Jay Collins filed SB 150 yesterday that allows eligible gun owners to carry a concealed weapon without having to get a permit. Collins says Florida will not get in the way of law-abiding Americans who want to defend themselves and their families. The bill also allows private schools to be part of the school guardian program so employees will be able to carry concealed guns. The bill also creates the Florida Schools Canine Program. Dogs that can detect guns would be deployed to certain K-12 schools. It also attempts to make schools safer by allowing districts to share information about troubled students, and it lets private schools to take part in the guardian program in which employees can carry concealed guns. 

Woman Uses Prop Money To Buy BMW In TN

(Memphis, TN)-- A woman in Tennessee is facing charges after using fake money to buy a BMW. Memphis Police say Chantia Blackwell reportedly arranged to buy the vehicle from a seller on Facebook Marketplace and used fake 100-dollar bills for the 17-hundred-dollar purchase. When the victim took the money to the bank the next day, it was discovered they were prop bills used in movies. Blackwell is facing counterfeiting and forgery charges.
