Deadly Train Collision In Seminole County

(Sanford, FL)-- A man is dead after a train collision in Seminole County. FHP says a SunRail train hit a truck yesterday afternoon in Sanford near West Airport Boulevard and Old Lake Mary Road. A 93-year-old Lake Mary man died when he turned his truck onto the tracks into the path of the train. He has not been identified. Troopers say the gate was down and the signal lights were activated.

Sir Dangerous Convicted Of Kidnapping

(Bartow, FL)-- A Polk County man is guilty of kidnapping a woman and threatening her with a box cutter. State Attorney Brian Haas announced yesterday that London Sir Dangerous was convicted of several charges, including kidnapping and tampering with a witness. The 29-year-old Winter Haven man got into an argument with a woman last year at the Briarcrest Apartments, and Haas says it quickly escalated. Sir Dangerous wound up cracking her passenger side window and windshield, held a boxcutter to her throat and rammed her car several times, causing extensive damage. Haas says Sir Dangerous could get life in prison. 

Brevard County Priest Facing Dismissal

(Titusville, FL)-- A priest in Brevard County promises he won't slow down even as he may be defrocked. Titusville Reverend Frank Pavone leads Priests for Life, and the Catholic News Agency reported this weekend that the Vatican has removed him as priest for what it calls blasphemous communications on social media. The 63-year-old Pavone says he has not heard anything from the Vatican, but he also says he wouldn't be surprised. He also tells Florida Today the pro-life movement has had a banner year, but there is work to continue. 

High Rip Current Risk Issued For Most Of East Coast

(Palm Beach, FL)-- There is a high risk for rip currents for most of Florida's east coast. The National Weather Service says the order will remain in effect from coastal Miami-Dade to Volusia County through at least tonight. Officials recommend staying out of the water. For anyone that decides to swim, the best option is to stay in front of a lifeguard.

Manatee County Teen Honored For New App

(Palmetto, FL)-- A Manatee County teenager is earning praise for an app aimed at helping his classmates from Ukraine. Congressman Vern Buchanan announced yesterday that Palmetto 14-year-old Jace Billingsley won the 2022 Congressional District App Challenge. Jace's ClassTranslate app translates school lessons into a user's language of choice. The 8th grader says he got the idea when he saw his Ukrainian classmates at Buffalo Creek Middle School struggling to understand their assignments. Jace says he enjoys creating practical apps that have a real world use, and Buchanan says our future is in good hands with students like Jace.

Couple Spends Wedding Night In South Alabama Jail

(Abbeville, AL)-- A newlywed couple is off to a rocky start after spending their wedding night in a South Alabama jail. Twenty-eight-year-old Shavarious Moses and his 26-year-old bride, Alexus, were on their way to honeymoon in Florida Thursday night when they were stopped in Abbeville for speeding. That's when police discovered ecstasy, marijuana and drug paraphernalia in their car. The couple, still wearing their wedding attire. was arrested on a series of charges, including drug possession, violating probation and carrying a pistol without a permit. They spent the night in separate cells at the Henry County Jail. Bonds were set the following day.

NASA Locates Coldest Spot On Earth

(Greenbelt, MD)-- NASA says it has pinpointed the coldest spot on Earth. Using NASA Earth satellites, researchers discovered a high ridge on the East Antarctic Plateau has the lowest temperatures on the planet. NASA said temperatures at the spot can get as low as 135 degrees below zero on a clear winter night. That revelation comes as a big portion of the U.S. will feel its own arctic blast this week. Some regions of the country will see wind chills fall to somewhere between 30-and-60-below thanks to a winter storm system.
