Insurance Company CEO Expects Rates To Rise

Barry Gilway is the CEO of Citizens Property Insurance, and he expects Ian will cost them over two-and-a-half billion dollars. He says premiums could go up as much as 30 percent next year no matter who your insurer is. Gilway also tells News Channel 8 insurance reform is needed because of the absurd levels of litigation in the state.
State CFO To Introduce Legislation To Prevent Insurance Fraud
(Tallahassee, FL) -- A top Florida official is calling for action to prevent insurance fraud following Hurricane Ian. Chief Financial Officer Jimmy Patronis says he will introduce a bill in the upcoming legislative session that will hopefully set apart bad public adjusters. He also hopes to educate residents through a statewide campaign. The State Office of Insurance Regulations says more than 550-thousand insurance claims related to the storm have been filed as of Wednesday.
DeSantis Extends Property Tax Deadline For Areas Impacted By Ian

Governor Ron DeSantis announced yesterday that he's extending the deadline for property taxes in counties hit by the storm. He also says he'll call a special session in December to discuss solutions to stabilize the state's property insurance market.
Orlando Man Sentenced For Capitol Riot
(Orlando, FL) --An Orlando man is going to jail for his role in the January 6th riot. A federal judge yesterday sentenced Robert Fairchild, Jr. to six months for civil disorder. The 40-year-old pled guilty five months ago. He was also ordered to pay two thousand dollars in restitution.
Volusia County Sheriff Worried About Trucktoberfest
(Daytona Beach, FL) -- Volusia Sheriff Mike Chitwood announced this week that he's designating a Special Event Zone in Daytona Beach and Daytona Beach Shores for this weekend's Trucktoberfest. The unpermitted event for truck enthusiasts led to dozens of arrests and hundreds of citations last year. The Special Event Zone designation allows deputies to double the fine for certain traffic violations, enforce occupancy limits, impound a car for up to 72 hours and order the organizer to cover the cost of damages. Chitwood tells News 6 the event's promoter needs to understand he's going to be on the hook for several hundred thousand dollars if this thing goes haywire.
Police Looking For Would-Be Kidnapper In Broward County
(Fort Lauderdale, FL) -- A search is underway to find a man who tried to kidnap a girl in Broward County. Fort Lauderdale Police yesterday released a description of the man that allegedly tried to get a ten-year-old girl into a black van on Wednesday in Poinsettia Heights. He's white, with short brown hair, between 25 and 40-years-old, and he was wearing a back sweater, black pants, and maybe glasses. The girl says she saw the man again yesterday.
Man Faces Charges After Chasing Woman While Wearing Halloween Mask
(Southaven, MS) --A man faces charges in Mississippi after allegedly chasing a woman down a street while wearing a Halloween mask. The incident took place this week just south of the Tennessee-Mississippi border in Southaven.Police say Rashe France jumped out of a vehicle and started running toward the woman and terrifying her. She said when the man stopped chasing her, he began laughing. Police found a white Halloween mask in France's car, but he told them he was only a witness to the crime and picked up the mask because it was cool. He faces charges of assault and causing physical fear.

One opportunist is trying to sell a pack of three unopened toys, which may include Grimace, the Hamburglar and Birdie, or the apparel brand Cactus Plant Flea Market's mascot Cactus Buddy, for 300-thousand dollars. So far, no one has placed a bid. Other sellers are getting some cash, however, with a box of 150 sealed toys going for 24-hundred dollars.
