Appeals Court Rejects Effort To Block New Abortion Law

(Tallahassee, FL)-- Those trying to stop Florida's new abortion law are dealing with a setback. An appeals court yesterday dismissed a temporary injunction that a judge issued last month. That injunction was issued after abortion providers sued the state after lawmakers passed a law restricting abortions after 15-weeks of pregnancy. In yesterday's ruling, the First District Court of Appeals ruled that the plaintiffs could not show that the abortion law would cause irreparable harm.

Wheels Fall Off DCPS Bus

(Jacksonville, FL)-- A school bus driver in Duval County is being praised as a hero. The unidentified woman was driving a bus on Monday when one of its wheels came off. A school district spokeswoman says the driver kept an extremely calm head amid a stressful situation, stopped the bus safely and waited for another bus to come and take the students home. That ability to stay cool under pressure was needed again, though, when another wheel came off the same bus yesterday. Again, no one was hurt, but the DCPS spokeswoman tells First Coast News this is unacceptable, and the bus company will be held accountable.

Funeral Held For Fallen MDPD Officer

(Miami, FL)-- A fallen Miami-Dade Police officer is being remembered as a hero. That's what Detective Cesar Echaverry's sister said yesterday at his funeral at loanDepot Park. The 29-year-old died last week after he was shot in the line of duty in Liberty City. MDPD Director Freddy Ramirez said that day will go down as the worst in the history of the Robbery Intervention Detail that Echaverry was a part of. Echaverry's fiance told the crowd being part of the RID was his ultimate goal, and he took a lot of pride in his work. After the ceremony, Echaverry's body was flown to Nicaragua for burial.
