(Deltona, FL) --The teenager hurt in a police shootout in Lake County is a person of interest in his father's disappearance. Eighteen-year-old Johnny Santiago was shot in Mount Dora on Monday after exchanging fire with law enforcement officers. The shootout came after a chase through three counties, including Volusia, where Johnny lives with his dad, Juan Santiago. Volusia County deputies say Johnny and his dad got into an argument in their home in Deltona Sunday night, and 52-year-old Juan hasn't been seen since.

(Washington, DC) --It's dangerous to be a pedestrian in Volusia County. SmartGrowthAmerica.org released its list of the deadliest metro areas in the country for pedestrians, and the Deltona-Daytona Beach-Ormond Beach area ranks as the deadliest. Between 2016 and 2020, there were 140 pedestrian deaths, and that breaks down to 4-point-25 deaths per 100-thousand people per year. The Albuquerque area ranks second. The Orlando-Kissimmee-Sanford area ranks 8th, the Palm Bay-Melbourne-Titusville area is 12th, and the Lakeland-Winter Haven area is 21st.

Surfside Flag Policy Remains In Effect

(Surfside, FL) --Those who want the town of Surfside to fly the Pride flag say they won't give up. Mayor Shlomo Danziger refused to fly the flag in June during Pride Month because he says it would have forced the town to fly other flags, like the satanic flag. The town commission discussed the issue yesterday, but no change was made. Some commissioners, though, say they'll keep pressing the issue.

Pompano Beach Vice Mayor Apologizes For Swearing At Cop

(Pompano Beach, FL) -- Fort Lauderdale Police are not happy with a Pompano Beach official's attempt to apologize for her behavior during a traffic stop. Video posted online this month shows Pompano Beach Vice Mayor Beverly Perkins swearing at a Fort Lauderdale Police officer during a traffic stop three months ago. At yesterday's Pompano Beach city commission meeting, Perkins said, 'if any exchange on my part is perceived as being disrespectful, I apologize.' The union that represents Fort Lauderdale Police, though, calls that a non-apology, and it writes on Facebook that it further demonstrates that her sense of entitlement overshadows reality.

Russian Advertisement Claiming "Alaska Is Ours" Causes Uproar Online

(Krasnoyarsk, Siberia) -- A Russian billboard proclaiming "Alaska Is Ours" is causing a stir on social media. The Siberian advertisements are apparently a "private initiative" by a trailer sales company called Alaska and not actually sponsored by the Russian government. A representative of the company says their director is "very patriotic," hence the signs. People online weren't so convinced, with some noting that a Russian parliament spokesperson recently suggested Moscow could "take back" Alaska as retaliation against the West for sanctions. The image has been shared thousands of times online and Alaska's Republican Governor Mike Dunleavy responded by wishing "good luck" to Russian officials if they think they can take back the state.
