Weather Conditions For SpaceX Launch Are 80% Go

(Cape Canaveral, FL) -- It looks like Mother Nature will allow an upcoming rocket launch to take place. SpaceX is planning to launch a Falcon 9 rocket carrying four astronauts in a Crew Dragon Endeavour capsule Thursday at 6:11 a.m.. The US Space Force 45th Weather Squadron announced yesterday that launch conditions are 80-percent Go. Forecasters say the primary concern is winds that could exceed 20 miles an hour. 

DeSantis Signs Anti-Riot Bill In Polk County

(Winter Haven, FL) -- A controversial bill is now law after a ceremony in Polk County. Governor Ron DeSantis was in Winter Haven yesterday to sign the anti-riot bill, HB One, into law. It calls for harsher punishments for violent protesters, and DeSantis calls it the strongest pro-law enforcement piece of legislation in the country. An official with Black Lives Matter Restoration Polk, though, tells ABC Action News this is an intimidation tactic targeting black citizens and their First Amendment rights. 

Volusia County Proud Boys Member Ordered To Jail

(Orlando, FL) -- A Volusia County man accused of storming the US Capitol is too dangerous to not be locked up. That's what a federal judge decided yesterday in ordering Ormond Beach's Joseph Biggs to jail. The FBI says Biggs is a leader of the Proud Boys, and he organized the plan to disrupt the certification of the presidential election in January. The 37-year-old is already wearing a GPS monitor, but the judge determined there was no way to stop Biggs from accessing the internet and reaching other Proud Boys without putting him behind bars while he awaits trial. 

HillsCo Teachers Laid Off By Email

(Tampa, FL) -- Dozens of Hillsborough County teachers are reeling from what one calls a devastating email. Bryan Elementary School's Stacie Emory was one of over 100 teachers who got an email last week informing them they were being laid off. She says she was told the week before, though, that she would be retained for the fall semester. 

Scott Warns 'Woke Corporate America'

(Washington, DC) -- Rick Scott has a warning to what he calls 'woke corporate America.' Senator Scott wrote a piece yesterday on FoxBusiness.com criticizing companies who have condemned Georgia's new voting laws. Scott warns a massive backlash is coming against these companies, and that day will be November 8th, 2022, when the Republicans take back the Senate and the House. He adds when that happens, corporate welfare will be a thing of the past, and no amount of donations will save these companies. 

Florida Bill Wants To Prevent Politicians From Being Banned On Social Media

(Tallahassee, FL) -- Florida's Senate Appropriations Committee are debating the "Transparency in Technology Act." The bill wants to regulate social media platforms who de-platform political candidates. The Act also proposes fines for social media companies, enables citizens to sue tech companies, and users to opt-out of certain algorithms. The act has already passed some key Florida House Committees.
