Brevard County Deputies Investigating Voter Intimidation Allegation

(Titusville, FL) -- An email that threatens Democrats is under investigation in Brevard County. The county's elections supervisor says some registered Democrats have gotten an email in which the sender threatens to come after them if they don't vote for President Trump. Sheriff Wayne Ivey said yesterday the emails come from outside the continental US, and they are not considered a valid threat, but his office is investigating.

Sarasota County Votes To Renew Mask Mandate

(Sarasota, FL) -- Parents in Sarasota County might sue after a recent vote by the school board. The board voted last night to require masks in schools, but some parents objected, including one who accused the board of tyranny while police escorted him out of the meeting room. Parents who oppose the policy say they want a choice, and some say they have already filed paperwork asking a court to overturn the mask mandate. One mom tells 8 On Your Side they want the right to decide what's best for their children.

MPD Officer Seen At Polling Place With Trump Mask

(Miami, FL) -- A Miami Police officer will be punished for what his boss calls unacceptable conduct. A photo posted on Twitter yesterday shows an officer at a polling place, in uniform, wearing a Trump 2020 mask. The chairman of the Miami-Dade Democratic Party called it city-funded voter intimidation, and he asked for the officer to be suspended immediately. Police Chief Jorge Colina says the officer violated policy, and the issue is being addressed, but he did not say what punishment the officer will face.

Coronavirus Strike Teams Targeting Orange County Attractions

(Orange County, FL) -- Coronavirus strike teams have been out inspecting thousands of businesses enforcing safety guidelines, and now they will turn their attention to Orange County attractions. Mayor Jerry Demings says team members will begin making unannounced visits to theme parks in the coming weeks. That will likely include inspections at Universal Orlando's parks and resorts that are located within the county limits. So far, Demings says more than 36-hundred businesses have been visited since strike teams were assembled, with 450 follow-up inspections being conducted.

Passenger Punches Flight Attendant On Plane At MIA

(Miami, FL) -- Delta Airlines is investigating a violent incident caught on tape at MIA. Cellphone video recorded by a passenger on a flight Monday night shows another passenger punching a flight attendant. Witnesses tell NBC 6 the woman was upset that she and her boyfriend were asked to leave the plane because the man refused to buckle his seatbelt. Delta says it doesn't tolerate violence of any kind, and the airline apologized to the other passengers for the four-hour delay the incident caused.

Canadian Town Of Asbestos Votes To Change Name

(Canada) -- One Canadian town no longer wants to be toxic. After 120 years, the Ouebec city of Asbestos has voted to change its name. From now on, it will be known as Valley of the Springs. The town was originally named for the profitable asbestos mine found in 1897 before the mineral was identified as a toxic substance that could cause cancer. Over the past few years, the city's six-thousand residents became involved in a debate on how to distance themselves from the poison. This week, nearly 52-percent voted to change the name.
