Rays Extend World Series With Thrilling Twelve Inning Win

The Tampa Bay Rays defeated the Milwaukee Brewers 4-3 in twelve innings on Tuesday night. With the win, the Rays staved off elimination and extended the World Series to game five, with the Brewers still holding a 3-1 series lead in the best-of-seven series.

This game was a back-and-forth game through the first nine innings. Chandler Simpson drove in a run with a double in the second inning, before the Brewers answered in the fourth with a Cooper Platt RBI double that made it 1-1. In the bottom of the fourth inning the Rays got a run when Junior Caminero scored on a throwing error by Milwaukee third baseman David Hamilton that made it 2-1 in favor of the home team.

David Hamilton tried to atone for his error in the top of the fifth, hitting a solo home run that tied the game 2-2. That would remain the score through nine innings. Rays starter Griffin Jax allowed two earned runs on four hits in his four innings of work in which he struck out six and walked two, while the Brewers got three innings out of Dustin May to start the game on what was a bullpen day for Milwaukee.

After both teams were scoreless in the tenth and eleventh inning, the Brewers broke through in the top of the twelfth when Cooper Platt hit a solo home run. Platt finished the game 4-for-5 with two runs scored and what appeared like it could be a World Series clinching homer in extra innings.

The Rays had other ideas, though, and their offense came to life in the bottom of the twelfth. Junior Caminero reached to lead off the inning when Milwaukee third baseman Joey Ortiz committed a throwing error. Liam Hicks then hit a single to move him to third, before Junior was lifted for pinch runner Cedric Mullins. Moments later, Jonny DeLuca hit a RBI single to drive in Mullins and tie the game 3-3.

Chandler Simpson then extended the inning with a single to load the bases, before Ben Williamson hit a RBI single to lift the Rays to a 4-3 win and extend the 2026 World Series. The win now forces a game five at Tropicana Field, before the series would shift to Milwaukee for games six and seven if they proved to be necessary.

Game five at Tropicana Field is scheduled for 8:00 PM first pitch on Wednesday night. Ronnie Lane begins pregame coverage at 6:00 PM on 95.7 WDAE & AM 620, your Home of Rays Baseball.
