The Tampa Bay Rays (89-59) defeated the Houston Astros (75-74) 3-2 on Saturday night. The Rays have now won the three game series and are 30 games above .500 on the season, and are four games above the Yankees in the AL East with fourteen games to go in the regular season.
Former Ray Isaac Paredes hit a solo homer in the first inning to give the Astros an early lead. The Rays took the lead in the fourth inning off a two-run single from Richie Palacios. Yanier Diaz tied the game in the sixth inning with a RBI single for the Astros, before the Rays answered again in the seventh. It was Nick Madigral coming through with a sacrifice fly, that would prove to be the final score.
Ian Seymour got the start for the Rays and allowed two earned runs on four hits in six innings of work while striking out ten and walking one. Tyler Wells (5-2, 2.38) picked up the win out of the bullpen, while Bryan Baker got the last four outs to earn the save. For Baker it was his 40th save of the season and his 29th consecutive save.
The Rays will now try to sweep the Astros when they meet in the finale on Sunday afternoon. Freddy Peralta (8-11, 4.82) is scheduled to start for the Rays and face Hayden Wesneski (5-1, 3.35) for the Astros.
