The New York Mets (63-77) defeated the Tampa Bay Rays (83-56) 10-4 on Wednesday night at Tropicana Field. With the loss, the Rays dropped the three-game interleague series and finished the homestand with a 4-2 record.
The Mets built a lead of 6-0 after scoring three runs in the first and third innings. The Rays got a run back in the third and three in the fourth to pull within 6-4 - Richie Palacios hit a two-run homer in that fourth to pull the Rays within two. Unfortunately for the home team that would be as close as they would get.
The Mets answered in the seventh inning, betting a bases clearing double from Nick Morabito that made it 9-4. Juan Soto hit a solo homer in the eighth inning to make it 10-4, which would prove to be the final score. Griffin Jax (6-10, 4.10) took the loss for the Rays in his return from the IL, allowing six earned runs on seven hits in two and two-thirds innings while striking out one and walking two.
The Rays now go on the road and will begin a four-game series in Texas against the Rangers on Thursday night. Shane McClanahan (10-6, 3.19) is scheduled to start on Thursday night and face Cal Quantrill (6-5, 3.01) for the Rangers. First pitch from Globe Life Field in Arlington is scheduled for 8:05 PM - pregame coverage begins with Ronnie Lane hosting Inside Pitch at 7:00 PM on 95.7 WDAE & AM 620, your Home of Rays Baseball.
