The Edgewater City Commission will meet to discuss allowing residents to keep hens in their backyards in residential neighborhoods.Owners would need to get a permit first.The maximum number of hens allowed would be seven. Roosters would still be banned, and the eggs cannot be sold.
Deputy Struck By Lightning In Seminole County
(Geneva, FL) --A deputy is hurt after he was hit by lightning in Seminole County. The Seminole County Fire Department says the deputy was touching a gate yesterday in Geneva at Mullet Lake Park when he suffered an indirect hit. He was taken to the hospital as a precaution, and firefighters say he was conscious and alert.
Fire In Orange County
(Orlando, FL) --Lightning may be to blame for a fire in Orange County. The two-alarm fire started yesterday in Windermere at the Buena Vista Place Apartments.Orange County Fire Rescue says it looks like lightning hit the roof, and about a dozen units were damaged. At least five of them are uninhabitable.The Red Cross is helping those displaced.
Walton County K9 Helps Make Meth Arrest
(DeFuniak Springs, FL) -- A drug-sniffing K9 is credited with helping make an arrest in Walton County. The sheriff's office announced yesterday Wesley Thompson was arrested Saturday on Otter Pond Road. During a traffic stop, a K9 alerted a deputy to drugs in the car, and a search led to the discovery of meth on the center console and in a toolbox in the bed of the pickup truck. All told, they say they found over 3-hundred grams of meth. They say they also found drug paraphernalia and a revolver with the serial number filed off. As if all that wasn't bad enough, Thompson is also a convicted felon.
Miami-Dade Deputy Hurt In Street Takeover
(Miami, FL) --A deputy is hurt after an illegal street takeover event in Miami-Dade County. The sheriff's office says the deputy responded to the takeover yesterday morning in Miami at Northwest 77th Court and Northwest 169th Street. While trying to make an arrest, someone apparently launched a live firework directly at the deputy. That led to a minor burn on the deputy's hand. Those responsible fled the scene, and no arrest has been announced.
