Governor Signs Budget At Hillsborough College
(Tampa, FL) --Governor Ron DeSantis has signed the state's spending plan. He put pen to paper yesterday at Hillsborough College in Tampa -- a potential future home for a Tampa Bay Rays stadium. The 118-billion-dollar budget includes 50-million dollars for campus and infrastructure improvements tied to the proposed project. DeSantis says the plan also funds priorities, like transportation projects, Everglades restoration, and teacher and law enforcement pay increases.
Orlando Opens Time Capsule From 1976
(Orlando, FL) --City officials in Orlando opened a time capsule yesterday that was buried in 1976. Inside, there was a phonebook, flyers for the University of Central Florida when it was known as Florida Technological University, a magazine about the opening of Disney World and a copy of the Sentinel Star newspaper.The Kiwanis Club planted the time capsule in Lake Eola Park, and President Mark Kelly wants to keep the tradition alive. He tells the Orlando Sentinel he wants to put some items in a time capsule to be opened in another 50 years on the 300th anniversary of the country.
Child Found Dead In Car In Broward County
(Plantation, FL) --An investigation is underway after a child was found dead in Broward County. Plantation Police say the child was found in an SUV outside A World of Discovery Academy on Northwest 4th Street. The daycare owner says the child was a one-year-old boy, and the SUV he was found in belonged to his dad. The owner also tells Local 10 News his employees told him the father showed up at the daycare to pick up the boy, but he was told the boy was never dropped off.That's when the man checked his SUV and found the child. No charges have been announced.
Duval County Principal Arrested
(Jacksonville, FL) --A school principal in Duval County is facing criminal charges. Baldwin Middle-Senior High School Principal Michael Townsend was arrested yesterday.He's accused of failing to report child abuse, which is a third-degree felony. Townsend announced last week he would resign, effective today.
Luna the Bald Eagle Takes First Flight
(Big Bear, CA) --Another one of the Big Bear eaglets in California has taken their first flight. Friends of Big Bear Valley says Luna, one of Jackie and Shadow's eaglets, flew Monday morning. He flew to a tree where his father, Shadow, was waiting for him. On Sunday, Luna's sister, Sandy took her first flight by accident after losing her footing. Sandy then flew to a nearby tree minutes later. Friends of Big Bear Valley says she looked good in her first flight.
