FDOT Holds Public Meeting To Discuss Changes On A1A
(Ponte Vedra, FL) -- FDOT may have some work to do to convince St. Johns County residents to go along with its plans for A-One-A. FDOT held a public meeting last night in Ponte Vedra to discuss changes planned for the road from Gnarled Oaks Drive to the Duval County line. The meeting drew an overflow crowd, and many who spoke were not thrilled with what they heard. Some questioned the design and the cost and proposed their own solutions.One woman tells News4Jax we need common-sense solutions instead of engineers trying to twist the road like a puzzle. Broward County School Board Pauses Plans For AI Platform
(Fort Lauderdale, FL)-- The Broward County School Board plans to address concerns about an AI platform. The school board met yesterday and discussed the planned rollout of MagicSchool AI.It's designed for teachers and students, and it's due to be rolled out for the upcoming school year. Some teachers and parents, though, pushed for a delay due to concerns about privacy and inappropriate content. The board will meet again next month, and Superintendent Howard Hepburn will present a report on the program's safeguards.
AG Uthmeier Subpoenas CVS
(Tallahassee, FL)-- Florida is going after CVS. Attorney General James Uthmeier announced yesterday he has issued CVS Health Corporation a Civil Investigative Demand. That requires CVS to turn over documents and testimony on reimbursement rates and other information by July 28th. Uthmeier says CVS is denying people access to affordable medication and rigging the system to favor its own stores and squeeze out competitors. He adds this investigation will uncover the truth and protect fair competition.
Ponzi Scheme Suspect To Plead Guilty
(Apopka, FL) -- An Orange County man will plead guilty to cheating people out of hundreds of millions of dollars. Apopka's Christopher Alexander Delgado was the president and CEO of Goliath Ventures, but prosecutors say he ran it like a Ponzi scheme over the last three years.He allegedly scammed his victims out of at least 250 million dollars. News 6 reports Delgado will pay restitution, and he'll also plead guilty to charges that include conspiracy to commit fraud, wire fraud and money laundering.
DeSantis Gets E-Bike Safety Bill
(Tallahassee, FL)-- An e-bike safety bill has one more step to clear before becoming law.The bill passed the state legislature and is headed to Governor Ron DeSantis' desk for his signature. The bill requires e-bike riders to stay under 10 miles an hour on sidewalks when a pedestrian is within 50 feet. Violators could be fined 30 dollars. Local governments would still be able to pass their own laws.
Hunt Is Over For Escaped Animal
(Leakey, TX) -- A giraffe who escaped from a Texas ranch this week has been found safe. Her name is Gracie and she escaped from Cedar Hollow Ranch, which is about 90-miles northwest of San Antonio. The owner says they have had giraffes at the ranch for at least 30 years. Gracie was able to get out of a gate and wandered away.
