Florida Board Of Governors Could Vote To Ban Undocumented Students From Public Universities
(Tallahassee, FL) -- An upcoming meeting in Florida could lead to a big change in where undocumented students can pursue a degree. The Florida Board of Governors will meet Wednesday to discuss banning undocumented students from attending public universities. There would be an exception, though, if the school had already accepted all academically qualified applicants. This would apply to all 12 public universities the BOG has authority over, and it would take effect in the 2027-28 school year.
Orlando Could Lose State Funding If It Changes Downtown Regulations
(Orlando, FL) -- Orlando's efforts to change its downtown could be costly. The city commission will meet today to discuss easing development restrictions in the Downtown Historic District. The state sent the city an email Friday warning about the consequences of changing rules about developments in the district. The state's Division of Historic Resources says the city must give it 30 days notice before the city changes its rules.Otherwise, the city might lose a certification that makes it eligible for state funding for projects designed to preserve historic features. Mayor Buddy Dyer tells the Orlando Sentinel he expects the commission will approve the change today, but commissioners will also make the change take effect in 30 days to comply with the state requirement.
Police Officer Shoots Man In Miami-Dade County
(Miami, FL) -- A man is injured after he was shot by a police officer in Miami-Dade County. It happened yesterday afternoon in Miami Shores near Biscayne Boulevard and Northeast 86th Street. Miami Shores Police say an armed man caused a disturbance at a car dealership. He was taken to the hospital, but there's no word on his condition. FDLE is investigating.
Coast Guard Rescues Two People
(Miami, FL) -- Two men are safe thanks to the Coast Guard. A boat crew from a Coast Guard station in Miami Beach rescued the two yesterday near Elliot Key. The Coast Guard says the men drifted away from their boat near Caesar Creek and wound up four miles from Elliot Key. They didn't have life jackets, but they were unhurt.
Soccer Fans Complain About Traffic, Parking
(Miami, FL) -- Some futbol fans might not leave Miami with a great impression of the city. Fans at yesterday's World Cup game at Hard Rock Stadium complained about traffic and parking problems. Some reported long walks after having to park far away from the stadium. One fan says the traffic was horrible. Another fan tells CBS News Miami he had low expectations, and it was still bad. The next game in Miami will be Wednesday when Brazil plays Scotland.
Trump Creates UFO Panel
(Washington, DC)-- The Trump administration has established a new panel to try and resolve Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena sightings. Harvard astrophysicist Avi Loeb will be among the new board's advisors.The Office of the Director of National Intelligence said the new UAP Governance Board met for the first time last week "to support the president's directive on UAP transparency." The agency said the new council will also assist in the timely coordination and declassification of UAP-related information.Loeb will lead the new board's UAP Science Advisory Council, a group within the newly founded organization.
