Florida A.G. Sues TikTok
(Ft. Lauderdale, FL) --State Attorney General James Uthmeier is suing TikTok. He accuses the platform of deceiving parents about safety and failing to comply with Florida's "under 16" social media law. The 66-page complaint says TikTok knowingly lets kids under 13 use the platform and allows those 14 and 15 to do it without parental consent.TikTok has not responded.
Deadly Explosion In Miami-Dade County
(Miami, FL) --One person is dead and four others are hurt after an explosion in Miami-Dade County. It happened yesterday morning at county facility on Southwest 87th Ave. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue says an underground fuel tank exploded. One person died at the scene. Three people were taken to the hospital, and they're in stable condition.A fourth person was hurt but refused transport. There's no word on what caused the explosion.
Deadly Plane Crash In Polk County
(Bartow, FL) --A man is dead after a plane crash in Polk County. It happened last night in Lakeland in a field near I-4 and Moore Road. The sheriff's office says the pilot died shortly after takeoff from Bartow. He was flying an experimental single-seater that came apart in the air. He has not been identified, but Sheriff Grady Judd says he was a young man.
Couple In Fertility Mixup Reaches Agreement With Baby's Biological Parents
(Orlando, FL) --A couple caught in a fertility mixup will raise a child that is not biologically theirs. A judge yesterday approved a settlement Steven Mills and Tiffany Score reached with the baby's biological parents. Score got pregnant last year after an IVF procedure at a Seminole County fertility clinic, but there was a mistake, and she wound up giving birth to another couple's child. Mills and Score will keep raising the girl, though, and the biological parents have agreed not to seek custody. The girl is now 6-months-old. Mills and Score are suing the fertility clinic that is now closed.
Pilot Reports Seeing Skydiver on Final Approach to LAX
(Los Angeles, CA) -- Authorities in California are investigating a skydiver sighting by a pilot on the final approach to LAX. A Gulfstream jet pilot reported a "potential skydiver" crossing over the plane on Sunday afternoon. The pilot told the control tower someone in a wing suit was at an elevation of about four-thousand feet. The FAA approach control facility in Southern California reported a skydiver in the area west of the 605 freeway and north of the 105 freeway. The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department sent a helicopter to the area but did not find anyone matching the description in the air.Other pilots were also notified.
Woman Driving 100mph+ To Watch Love Island Is Arrested
(Undated) -- A woman in a rush to watch a reality TV show ended up behind bars instead. The Arizona Department of Public Safety says it happened last week with the woman caught speeding on State Route 347 in Pinal [[ Peh - nall ]] County, just south of Phoenix. The driver was clocked at 108-miles-per-hour and when she was pulled over, she told troopers that she wanted to get home in time to watch "Love Island." The woman, who was not identified, was arrested for criminal speed and reckless driving. Her vehicle was put into what authorities called "car jail" for 20 days.
