MLB Hall Of Famer Victimized By Florida Scammer
(Orlando, FL) -- A man is accused of scamming a baseball Hall of Famer out of a million dollars. The Florida Office of Financial Regulation has identified the victim as former New York Yankees pitcher Mariano Rivera.Steven Harry Minard allegedly lied to Rivera to get him to invest in an entertainment development project he claimed he was planning in Orlando. Investigators say Minard took the money Rivera invested in 2022 and put it in an account that was used to pay others. None of the money was apparently used for anything related to the project Minard claimed he was planning in downtown Orlando. Channel 9 reports Minard is facing charges that include organized fraud.
Security Guard Accused of Stealing Soccer Uniform
(Miami Beach, FL)-- A Miami Beach hotel security guard is facing felony burglary charges after police say he used a master key to enter a guest's room. Investigators say 33-year-old Carlos Mendoza, who worked at the Grand Beach Hotel, didn't take money or valuables. Instead, he allegedly stole an official FIFA referee uniform that belonged to a soccer official. The uniform has since been returned.
Americans Are Avoiding Their Bank Balances
(Minneapolis, MN)-- Nearly one in three Americans are not checking their bank balances because of anxiety. That's according to a U.S. Bank survey of over three-thousand adults. Younger adults reported the sharpest money stress, with nearly half of Gen Z saying they avoid checking their accounts entirely.Nearly three quarters of millennials reported high or moderate anxiety over checking and savings balances, while one in four adults said they would need 10-thousand dollars saved to avoid financial stress.
