Florida Cabinet Approves $90M In Grants For Local Law Enforcement

(Tallahassee, FL) -- Some local law enforcement agencies will benefit from spending approved by state officials. The State Board of Immigration Enforcement approved almost 90 million dollars in grants yesterday. The Brevard County Sheriff's Office is getting the most money at 14 million dollars.The Orange County Sheriff's Office and Polk County Sheriff's Office are each getting 10 million. The money is being used to upgrade communications systems.

Man Arrested For Shooting And Crash In Osceola County

(Kissimmee, FL)-- A teenager is hurt after a shooting resulted in a car crash in Osceola County. The sheriff's office says St. Cloud's Christian Andres Rivera was chasing a car his 17-year-old ex-girlfriend was in Monday night in Kissimmee. At one point, the 21-year-old Rivera fired at the car she was in and hit her. Deputies say he also rear-ended the car, which caused it to hit a sheriff's office pickup truck. The girl and the 20-year-old driving the car she was in were taken to the hospital with serious injuries. The OCSO says Rivera fled the scene of the crash but was found at a relative's home in St. Cloud. He's charged with attempted murder.

Deadly Shooting In Miami-Dade County

(Miami Gardens, FL)-- A robbery suspect is dead after he was shot in Miami-Dade County.It happened yesterday morning in Miami Gardens near Northwest 36th Ave and 174th Street. Miami Gardens Police say a man was trying to break into a house when he was confronted by the homeowner. The homeowner's girlfriend ran to a neighbor's house for help. When the neighbor arrived, the suspect fired a gun, and the neighbor shot the suspect in the head. The suspect was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. Police say the neighbor is cooperating. 

Miami-Dade County Man Named To Artemis 3 Mission

(Houston, TX) -- A Miami-Dade County man will be part of an upcoming space mission. NASA yesterday named the four astronauts that'll be part of Artemis 3. One of them is Miami Sunset Senior High School grad and Army Lieutenant Colonel Frank Rubio. The 49-year-old is no stranger to space as he spent over a year in orbit in 2022 and '23.In that mission, Rubio set a record for the longest spaceflight by an American. In Artemis 3, Rubio and his three crewmates will orbit Earth as part of NASA's plan to prepare for a future moon landing. Artemis 3 is due to launch next year.

Former Air Canada Pilot Operated Without Proper License

(Ontario, Canada)-- A man is facing legal trouble after an investigation by authorities in Ontario, Canada found he allegedly flew commercial planes for nearly 17 years without the required license. The pilot was arrested on June 1st, and he is charged with seven counts including fraud, using forged documents and public mischief. The investigation was dubbed "Project Icarus," and according to authorities, it suggests "a deliberate effort to circumvent systems designed to safeguard the public." Air Canada, which employed the pilot, issued a statement noting that "safety was not compromised by this incident," but the pilot in question was "removed from active duty." His first court appearance will be on June 29th.
