UPDATE: NOAA Predicts "Below Normal" Season 

(Orlando, FL) -- The NOAA is predicting a below-normal 2026 season, thanks to a developing El Niño.It's forecasting between eight and 14 named storms, including as few as three hurricanes. Forecasters say stronger wind shear is expected to disrupt storm development across the Atlantic. The hurricane season officially begins on June 1st.

Palm Bay Blocks New Medical Marijuana Dispensaries

(Palm Bay, FL)-- A city in Brevard County is putting a stop to new medical marijuana dispensaries. The Palm Bay City Council voted yesterday to ban new dispensaries indefinitely. This was the second and final reading after the first one passed two weeks ago. Deputy Mayor Mike Jaffe [[JAF-fee]] proposed the ban. He says the city already has over a dozen dispensaries, including some near daycares.

Tampa City Council Passes Rays Deal

(Tampa, FL) -- The Tampa Bay Rays stadium deal can move forward, but there will be hurdles ahead.The Tampa City Council yesterday approved a non-binding memorandum of understanding with the team. The Hillsborough County Commission approved the deal the day before. It calls for the county and the city to put up almost a billion dollars with the Rays putting up more than a billion. Getting a binding agreement passed, though, may be tough. City Council member Bill Carlson voted 'yes' yesterday, but he says he will definitely vote 'no' when the deal is presented in its final form because he doesn't believe in private sector subsidies. 

Business Owner Vows To Leave Coral Gables Over World Cup Dispute With City

(Coral Gables, FL)-- A dispute over a World Cup watch party has a business owner threatening to leave Coral Gables. Harald Neuweg owns Fritz and Franz Bierhaus, and he has asked the city to allow him to host a World Cup watch party in an outdoor plaza at his restaurant on Merrick Way.The city, though, rejected his initial permit request and has delayed voting on his new permit application.The delay has Neuweg saying he's going to move his business out of Coral Gables after more than 20 years. Mayor Vince Lago [[LAH-go]] says the city is just looking to address concerns about security, and Neuweg has refused to meet with him. Neuweg tells NBC 6 he's not bending down to the will of the mayor or others who are against this, and he doesn't even want to talk to the mayor at this point.     

Jet Skier Rescues Dog In Danger Of Drowning

(Fort Lauderdale, FL)-- A dog is safe thanks to a jet skier in Broward County. Travis Howe was working yesterday at Jet Ski FL in Fort Lauderdale when he heard there was a dog in danger of drowning. Howe got on a jet ski, found the dog, pulled it onboard and took it to shore where witnesses greeted him with applause. The owner was contacted, and the two were reunited. As for how the dog wound up in the water, Howe tells Local 10 News he thinks it was chasing after a coconut that was in its mouth when Howe found it.
