Rays Beat Blue Jays In Extras

The Tampa Bay Rays (28-13) defeated the Toronto Blue Jays (18-24) 7-6 in ten innings on Tuesday night at Rogers Centre in Toronto. With the win, the Rays have won the series against their divisional rival.

The Rays built a 5-0 lead in the top of the seventh inning, thanks in part to brilliant pitching from Shane McClanahan, who pitched five shutout innings in which he allowed just one hit while striking out seven and walking one. The Blue Jays, though, put together a five-run seven inning off the Rays bullpen, and the game would be tied 5-5 going into extra innings.

In the tenth inning, Taylor Walls broke the tie with a RBI single, before Jonathan Aranda hit a sacrifice fly that gave the Rays a 7-5 advantage. Garrett Clevinger allowed just one run in the bottom of the tenth to finish off the win and get his first save of the season.

The Rays will now try to sweep the Blue Jays when they meet in the series finale on Wednesday night. First pitch Wednesday night is scheduled for 7:07 PM - pregame coverage begins with Ronnie Lane hosting Inside Pitch at 6:00 PM on 95.7 WDAE & AM 620, your Home of Rays Baseball.
