The Tampa Bay Rays (22-12) defeated the Toronto Blue Jays (16-19) 5-1 on Monday night at Tropicana Field. For the Rays, it was their fourth straight win.
Ryan Vilade hit a three-run homer in the first to give the Rays all the offense they would need in this one. The Blue Jays got one back in the third when Vladimir Guerrero Jr hit a RBI single that made it 3-1, but the Rays had an answer. In the sixth inning Taylor Walls hit a two-run single that made it 5-1, which would prove to be the final score.
Nick Martinez (3-1, 1.71) got the win for the Rays allowing one earned run on five hits in five innings of work in which he struck out four and walked one. Bryan Baker got the save - his ninth of the season - by getting the final out of the ninth inning.
The Rays will now look to make it five in a row and try to win the series against the Blue Jays on Tuesday night. First pitch on Tuesday is scheduled for 6:40 PM - pregame coverage begins with Ronnie Lane hosting Inside Pitch at 5:30 PM on 95.7 WDAE & AM 620, your Home of Rays Baseball.
