Mills Downplays House Ethics Probe

(Washington, DC)-- Florida Congressman Cory Mills is downplaying a House ethics investigation tied to assault allegations and questions about federal contracts. In an interview with NewsNation, Mills dismissed the probe as politically motivated and said his situation is not comparable to other lawmakers accused of misconduct. The 7th District Republican did not directly address the specific allegations but emphasized that he has never been arrested or appeared in court.The ethics investigation is ongoing.

Two Drown In Brevard County

(Cocoa Beach, FL)-- A man and a woman are dead after they drowned in Brevard County.Cocoa Beach Fire Rescue says a 42-year-old Connecticut man and a 34-year-old Ohio woman got caught in rip currents Tuesday afternoon. They were on part of the beach near 4th Street South that was about a half-mile from the closest lifeguard station. Brevard County Ocean Rescue says the woman was trying to rescue her 14-year-old stepson, and the man was a stranger just trying to help. The teenager is OK. 

NJ Transit Reportedly Considering 100 Dollar World Cup Train Rides

(East Rutherford, NJ)--  New Jersey Transit is reportedly considering charging more than 100 dollars for a round-trip ticket between Penn Station New York and MetLife Stadium for the upcoming eight World Cup matches. That's according to the New York Times. A typical ticket costs about 13-bucks. New York Governor Kathy Hochul reacted, saying this sounds awfully high and says that will not happen on MTA. NJ Transit says match day travel prices are not finalized but it expects to come out with pricing soon.  

Man In Custody After Poisoning Coworker

(Madison, WI) -- A man is in custody after allegedly using chemicals from a University of Wisconsin-Madison lab to poison his coworker. Investigators say Makoto Kuroda administered the poison taken from his own work fridge to his coworker earlier this month. After it was done, he reportedly texted another coworker saying "I did it. I have also informed the person himself." Kuroda was arrested Friday and told police his motive was due to the victim's promotion that he didn't receive. He's facing multiple charges, including second-degree recklessly endangering safety.

Heisman Trophy Winner Surprises Student With Scholarship

(Miami, FL) -- A former Miami high school quarterback is giving back in a big way. Heisman Trophy winner Fernando Mendoza surprised a student at his alma mater -- Christopher Columbus High School -- with a 25-thousand-dollar Taco Bell Foundation scholarship. The recipient is Andres Vergara. Mendoza also brought a food truck to campus and treated students to free tacos.

2007, in what was described as the worst shooting on a college campus in U.S. history, a gunman opened fire on students and instructors at two locations on the Virginia Tech University campus in Blacksburg, Virginia, killing 32 people before turning the gun on himself. 

1962, Walter Cronkite succeeded Douglas Edwards as anchorman of "The CBS Evening News." Cronkite would go on to become known as "the most trusted man in America" during his 18-plus years as anchor.
