Seminole County Student Uses 3D Printer To Save County Money On Election Equipment
(Lake Mary, FL) --An invention by a Seminole County student is a money-saver for the county. Lake Mary High School sophomore Ethan Sigal used a 3D printer to make a device the county elections office can use in their ballot printing machines. It's a clip that holds ballot paper together, but the vendor doesn't sell it as a stand-alone part, so when it breaks, the only option the county had was to buy a whole new printer drawer at a cost of 125 dollars. Elections Supervisor Amy Pennock turned to Lake Mary High School's Manufacturing Program for help, and that inspired Sigal to make a part that costs just 15 dollars. He visited the elections office this week to see how it'll be used to support elections operations. Sigal tells News 6 it feels amazing to know he made an impact.
