(Baltimore, MD) --Twins' manager Derek Shelton is in the record books. The newly hired Minnesota skipper became the first major league manager to be ejected for a dispute over the new strike-zone challenge system. Shelton argued Baltimore pitcher Ryan Helsley was late when he sought a challenge to a called ball on a full count. The Orioles won the challenge, and the call was reversed to a strike. Shelton became livid contending that Helsey didn't tap his cap quick enough to initiate a challenge. When the manager continued to argue his point, he was ejected for the first time as Twins skipper. This is the first season that MLB hitters, catchers and pitchers can challenge an umpire's balls and strike calls.
