(West Palm Beach, FL)-- Democrats are celebrating a win in President Trump's backyard.Democrat Emily Gregory won a state House seat special election yesterday in District 87. Trump's home at Mar-a-Lago is in the district. Gregory got 51 percent of the vote to beat Republican Jon Maples. Gregory will replace Mike Caruso, who resigned to become Palm Beach County clerk.This was Gregory's first run for office.After her win she told MS Now she felt like she was having an out-of-body experience, and she encourages anyone else who wants to make a difference to get off the sidelines and run.
Nathan Leads Tomkow In Special Election
(Tampa, FL) -- A race for state senate in Hillsborough County may be headed for a recount. A special election was held yesterday to represent Senate District 14. With all precincts reporting, Democrat Brian Nathan leads Republican Josie Tomkow [[TOM-cow]] by half-a-percentage point. The Hillsborough County Elections Supervisor has more ballots to count, though, including about 2-hundred provisional ballots. If the race is still within half-a-percentage point, a machine recount will take place Friday. The winner would replace Republican Jay Collins, who resigned to become lieutenant governor.
Engine Problems Reported Before Deadly Helicopter Crash In Palm Beach County
(Boynton Beach, FL)-- Cockpit audio may offer a clue as to what led to a deadly helicopter crash in Palm Beach County. The recordings released yesterday show the pilot reporting engine problems before the helicopter hit a warehouse in Boynton Beach on Monday. Both men on board were killed. They have been identified as flight instructor Alejandro Carrasco, of West Palm Beach, and student pilot Brian Mena, of Michigan. No one else was hurt. The FAA and NTSB are investigating.
TN Lawmakers Take Up New Marijuana Legalization Bill to Fund Road Repairs (Nashville, TN) --
Tennessee lawmakers are set to debate a bill that would legalize recreational marijuana for adults 21 and older. The proposal, dubbed "pot for potholes," would add a 15-percent tax on cannabis sales and use that revenue to fund road repairs across the state.It's sponsored by Nashville Democrats Representative Aftyn Behn and Senator Heidi Campbell. Supporters say the move could bring in millions and help fix infrastructure issues, while opponents voice concerns about public safety and impaired driving. Similar efforts to legalize marijuana for adult use in Tennessee failed last year.The measure goes in front of state lawmakers for consideration today.
Sixteen U.S. Cities Included In Happiest Cities List
(Undated) -- More than a dozen U.S. cities are included in a list ranking the world's happiest cities. Sixteen cities including San Francisco, Denver, Atlanta, Chicago and Dallas made the list, but that is down from 18 in 2025. Researchers with the London-based Institute for Quality of Life released their list of the 251 happiest cities in the world a day after the World Happiness Report was published. Factors such as inclusive policies, housing affordability, government transparency, environmental impacts, and more were considered when researchers compiled the list.
