The Tampa Bay Lightning (32-13-4) defeated the Chicago Blackhawks (21-22-8) 2-1 in the shootout on Friday night at the United Center in Chicago. With the win, the Lightning now have earned points in their last fifteen consecutive games.
Ryan Greene scored in the first period for Chicago to give the Blackhawks an early lead. Nikita Kucherov scored late in the second period to tie the game 1-1, which would remain the score through regulation. After a scoreless overtime, the Lightning got another goal from Kucherov in the second round and Gage Goncalves in the fourth.
The second point of this game was decided in the fifth round of the shootout, when Dominic James scored the game-winning goal to lift the Lightning to the win. Andrei Vasilevskiy went went 17-of-18 in net for Tampa Bay, while Arvid Soderblom went 30-of-31 in net for Chicago.
The Lightning now travel to Columbus for the second game of a back-to-back when they play the Blue Jackets on Saturday night. Puck drop between the Lightning and Blue Jackets is scheduled for 7:00 PM on Saturday night in Columbus.
