The Tampa Bay Rays (74-78) defeated the Toronto Blue Jays (89-63) 2-1 on Wednesday night at Steinbrenner Field. With the win, the Rays snapped their most recent skid at three games.
Yandy Diaz continued his hot streak, driving in Chandler Simpson with a RBI single in the bottom of the first to take a 1-0 lead. After the Blue Jays tied the game 1-1 in the fourth, Chandler Simpson came through again in the seventh inning with a RBI single to give the Rays a 2-1 lead that would prove to be the final score.
Ian Seymour (4-2, 2.54) pitched seven innings in which he allowed one unearned run on four hits while striking out three and walking one. Pete Fairbanks worked a perfect ninth to earn his 27th save.
The Rays will try to salvage a split of the four-game series with the Blue Jays when the two teams meet in the finale on Thursday afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 1:10 PM - pregame coverage begins with Ronnie Lane hosting Inside Pitch at high noon on 95.3 WDAE & AM 620, your Home of Rays Baseball.
