An ISIS suspect linked to the deadly New Year's Day terror attack on Bourbon Street in New Orleans has been arrested in Iraq, according to the Supreme Judicial Council of Iraq. The suspect, whose name has not been released, is believed to be part of ISIS's Foreign Operations Office and is accused of inciting the attack. The arrest follows a request from the United States for assistance in the investigation.

The attack, carried out by Shamsud-Din Jabbar, a 42-year-old U.S. Army veteran, resulted in the deaths of 14 people and injuries to dozens more. Jabbar drove a truck through a crowd on Bourbon Street during New Year's celebrations and was killed in a shootout with police. The FBI identified Jabbar as acting alone but continues to investigate possible accomplices.

The suspect will be prosecuted in Iraq under the country's Anti-Terrorism Law, highlighting Iraq's commitment to international cooperation against terrorism. Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry praised the arrest, emphasizing the resilience and dedication of law enforcement at all levels. The FBI's investigation remains active, and they encourage anyone with information to contact them.

This arrest comes as New Orleans plans a permanent memorial for the victims of the attack. The FBI continues to follow leads in the U.S. and internationally, maintaining that Jabbar was inspired by ISIS to carry out the attack.
