WIDE OPEN WEDNESDAY-Debate Musings

The first presidential debate of the season was more and less than what was hoped for by most of us. Less, because it quickly devolved into chaos. More, because the brawl was better than most prize fights these days. And the referee, Chris Wallace, was ineffective in bringing it down to a discussion and he quickly lost control. He never got it back in spite of his repeatedly reminding the candidates that they had agreed to the rules.

But, we’ll begin our day looking at one of last night topics- the violence in America and how our cities are responding to it. Portland and St, Louis set the stage.

IN A HANDBASKET we’ll look at the pride Gannett journalists must feel as USA TODAY’S fact checkers decide to descend on the Babylon Bee.

The debate is likely to be front and center. Your thoughts on what you saw and heard are welcome. I have a few ideas of my own and we open the floor to whatever is on your mind on this WIDE OPEN WEDNESDAY.
