SpaceX To Launch First Space Force Mission Today

(Cape Canaveral, FL) -- SpaceX is set for a historic launch. A Falcon 9 rocket is set to blast off today from Cape Canaveral in the company's first launch as part of a US Space Force mission. The Space Force was created in December, and the rocket in today's launch will carry satellites for military use. A 15-minute launch window begins just before 4 o'clock this afternoon, and the weather is 60 percent Go. 

Brevard County To Discuss Mask Ordinance

(Viera, FL) -- Brevard County may take further action to stop the spread of the coronavirus. The county commission this afternoon will discuss making masks mandatory at businesses that serve the public. Commissioner Bryan Lober proposed the measure to avoid what he calls mounting hospital personnel shortages. 

Jacksonville Announces Mask Ordinance

(Jacksonville, FL) -- The mayor's spokeswoman announced yesterday masks must now be worn indoors at public places. The measure also applies to Jacksonville Beach, Atlantic Beach, Neptune Beach and Baldwin. Mayor Lenny Curry had previously opposed making it mandatory to wear a mask. 

Miami Imposing Harsher Penalties For Businesses That Violate Social Distancing Guidelines

(Miami, FL) -- The city of Miami is taking further steps to ensure businesses comply with social distancing guidelines. Mayor Francis Suarez announced yesterday that businesses that violate rules like requiring masks can be shut down for 10 days for a first offense. That doubles the previous punishment of five days, and repeat offenders can be closed for as long as 30 days and be arrested. Suarez says the number of coronavirus cases is growing and something has to be done.  

Jacksonville Couple Getting Death Threats After Viral Video

(Jacksonville, FL) -- What appears to be a case of mistaken identity has a Jacksonville couple getting death threats. A video posted online last week shows a woman intentionally coughing on another person at a store.Lisa Hunter says internet detectives incorrectly identified the cougher as someone connected to her husband. Hunter says that has led to over 100 angry phone calls including death threats.Some have targeted her husband's business. Hunter tells First Coast News she has had to contact police to protect herself, her husband and his business.

Budget Vetoes Affect Central Florida Programs

(Tallahassee, FL) -- Central Florida isn't being spared from what the governor calls historic budget vetoes. Governor Ron DeSantis yesterday signed a 92-billion dollar budget after vetoing one billion dollars worth of spending. Those affected by the vetoes include two counseling programs for Pulse nightclub attack survivors, bear-resistant trash cans for Seminole County residents and funding for the Lake Monroe Trail Loop and the Green Mountain connector trail. DeSantis says the economic landscape is very different from when the budget was passed in March, but the budget still safeguards important investments in education, the environment and public safety.  Representative Tyler Sirois will join us Friday on BML to discuss the budget.

Family Saves Bear By Removing Plastic Jug From Head

(Chippewa County, WI) -- If this Wisconsin bear could thank this family, it would. CNN reports Tricia and Brian Hurt, along with their son Brady, came upon a swimming black bear in need of some help while fishing at Marsh-Miller Lake. They drove their boat closer to the animal only to find a plastic container stuck on its head. It took a couple tries, but they were able to successfully pull the jug off and the bear without harm. Later in the day, the family found out that the bear had the jug stuck on its head for a few days.
