Pence Visit To Polk County Canceled

(Lake Wales, FL) -- The coronavirus is to blame for canceling Mike Pence's trip to Polk County. The group, America First Policies, Tweeted yesterday that the vice president's visit to Lake Wales set for Thursday was called off. The group says the decision was made out of an abundance of caution, and they hope to reschedule.  

Governor Commends Universal Orlando For Safely Reopening

(Pensacola, FL) -- Universal Orlando is earning praise from the governor for combatting the coronavirus. While in Pensacola yesterday, Governor Ron DeSantis said Universal had a great safety plan. When reopening this month, Universal required masks and temperature checks. DeSantis says Universal didn't have any problems, and that shows when it comes to being safe, it doesn't take a lot and you just have to be careful. 

Disney Opens New Reservation System To Single-Day Ticket Holders

(Orlando, FL) -- There's a new way to get into Disney World. The theme park yesterday activated its Park Pass Reservation System for all those who have single-day tickets. It had previously only been open to those staying on Disney property and annual pass holders. You can get more info at DisneyWorld.Disney.Go.com.

Immigrant Rights Advocates March In Volusia County

(DeLand, FL) -- Immigrants-rights advocates in Volusia County are calling for change. About 50 people marched in DeLand yesterday to protest President Trump's immigration policies. An organizer says he'd like to see the closure of ICE. He also tells the News-Journal he wants ICE's funding diverted to help migrants trying to come here. 

St. Augustine Mask Policy Takes Effect

(St. Augustine, FL) -- A new policy is in place in St. Augustine to stop the spread of the coronavirus. The city commission last week passed a law making it mandatory to wear masks at businesses that serve the public. The law went into effect Saturday, and businesses say customers were largely in compliance, including at the St. Augustine Distillery. CEO Philip McDaniel tells The Record people seem more comfortable wearing masks as the number of COVID-19 cases rises across the state. 

Message In A Bottle Leads To Girls Friendship

(Undated) --  Two eleven-year-old girls are now friends thanks to a message in a bottle. Sofia Wilson wrote down her feelings about the COVID-19 pandemic while her family was stuck in Florida and sent it out to sea in a bottle. Sarah Walters found the bottle two weeks later while on a trip to the beach in North Carolina. Walters reached out to Wilson to respond, and now the two talk constantly. Their families are arranging a time them to meet in person.

Louisiana Man Arrested For Swimming In Bass Pro Shops Aquarium

(Boussier City, LA) -- Louisiana Police say a man is in custody for swimming in a gigantic fish tank at a Bass Pro Shops. Twenty-six-year-old Kevin Wise is said to have visited a location where he jumped into the store aquarium before climbing out and fleeing. One witness filmed the man dipping in between some of the fish while fully dressed. Police arrested Wise after he returned to the store. He is now facing a charge of simple criminal damage to property.
