Space X's Falcon 9 Launch Postponed Until Thursday

(Cape Canaveral, FL) -- The threat of severe weather is delaying the launch of the Space X's Falcon 9. The launch is now set for around 4:30 p.m. on Thursday at Kennedy Space Center. Primary weather concerns are large cumulus clouds and lightning.

JAX Mayor: No Face Mask Mandate

(Jacksonville, FL) -- Jacksonville will not be making face masks mandatory. Mayor Lenny Curry said yesterday that he did not think a mandate would be an efficient use of law enforcement's time or the city's resources. Curry encouraged residents to wear a mask when they were out in public if they could not maintain social distancing. The state of Florida surpassed 100-thousand coronavirus cases yesterday.

Coalition Of Miami-Dade Mayors Make Mask Use A Mandate

(Miami, FL) -- Over a dozen cities in Miami-Dade County are requiring masks when out in public. Miami Gardens Mayor Oliver Gilbert says mask-wearing is "literally a question of life and death" and is "not a suggestion." While the mayors admit enforcement will be tough, they want residents to do their part, so they do not have to rollback reopenings. Miami Mayor Francis Suarez says people who fail to wear masks in public could face misdemeanors.

Hillsborough County Passes Mandatory Face Mask Ordinance

(Tampa, FL) -- Employees and customers will be required to wear face masks inside of Hillsborough County businesses. Yesterday the Hillsborough County Emergency Policy Group passed a mandatory mask ordinance by a vote of five to three. The ordinance will go into effect at 5 p.m. Wednesday and will be renewed every seven days.The City of St. Petersburg has also implemented a mask requirement.

Lawmaker & Businessman Challenge Orange County Mask Requirement

(Orange County, FL) -- A Florida lawmaker and businessman are challenging an executive order requiring Orange County residents to wear face masks. Yesterday Representative Anthony Sabatini and Orange County businessman Carl Jackson filed a lawsuit alleging the order is unconstitutional and infringes on residents' rights. Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings issued the order last week in an effort to slow the spread of COVID-19.

Disney Workers Start Petition To Delay Reopening Of Theme Park

(Orlando, FL) -- A group of Disney workers are trying to delay the re-opening of the theme park in response to the record number of COVID-19 cases. The group of employees have started a petition asking executives to reconsider plans to reopen in July. As of yesterday, the petition had nearly four-thousand signatures.

St. Augustine City Commissioners Vote To Remove Confederate Monument

(St. Augustine, FL) -- A Confederate monument in downtown St. Augustine will officially be removed. City commissioners last night voted three-to-two to remove the statue from the east end of the Plaza de la Constitucion. The vote came after commissioners deliberated for an hour and a half and heard about eight hours of public comment.

Latino And Civil Rights Leaders Asking Gov. DeSantis To Clarify Recent Comments

(Tallahassee, FL) -- Civil rights leaders are asking Governor DeSantis for an apology for recent remarks. The governor said last week that the state's surge in coronavirus cases was in part due to more testing done on "overwhelming Hispanic farmworkers". Democratic Representative Javier Fernandez and other Latino leaders are speaking out against the claim. The Democratic Hispanic Caucus in Florida is asking DeSantis to share where he got the information that Latinos are spreading the virus.

Escambia County School District Investigating Grade School Teacher's Social Media Post

(Pensacola, FL) -- Escambia County School officials are investigating a Facebook post by a teacher at Longleaf Elementary school that some parents say is offensive. The post asks the question: What is privilege? It then answers by saying privilege is wearing 200-dollar sneakers when you've never had a job. The teacher told WEAR-TV News she should have the freedom to post whatever she wants on her personal social media page. School district officials are investigating to see whether her post violates their social media policies.

Study: Women Less Likely To Date Guys With Cats

(Fort Collins, CO) -- A new study suggests women aren't very interested in dating guys with cats. Colorado State University researchers showed hundreds of women photos of two men. About 38 percent of women said they were likely to date the man that didn't come with a cat. But, only 33 percent of women were likely to go out with the guy after seeing his picture that included a furry friend. The authors wrote that the findings suggest American culture sees cat men as "less masculine."
