Standoff With Shooting Suspect Ends In Polk County

(Lakeland, FL) -- A standoff that lasted almost 24 hours is over in Polk County. Deputies last night arrested Lakeland's Nickolus Johnson after he barricaded himself and two children inside a home in Kathleen. The standoff started after the 30-year-old allegedly shot his girlfriend, who was not hurt. Johnson will be charged with attempted murder. 

Woman Shot In Palm Bay

(Palm Bay, FL) -- A woman is hurt after a shooting in Brevard County. It happened last night in Palm Bay on Wildbriar Road. The woman was taken to the hospital, and she's in stable condition. No arrest has been announced, and there's no word on a motive. 

Acting Mayor Of Port Richey Sentenced  

(Pasco County, FL) -- Former Port Richey acting mayor Terrence Rowe is sentenced to two years probation and 50 hours of community service. The 65-year-old was involved in a city hall scandal with the jailed mayor Dale Massad [[MASS-ud]]. Authorities say the two discussed ways to intimidate a police officer who was investigating Massad's case. Massad is jailed on attempted murder charges, and Rowe pleaded guilty in December to charges of conspiring to obstruct justice.

Vehicle Possibly Involved In Interstate Shootings Located  

(Volusia County, FL) -- The FHP says it has found a vehicle that could possibly be involved in the shooting up of more than a dozen vehicles along I-4 and I-95 yesterday. While no arrests have been announced, investigators say it appears a BB or pellet gun was used but it also could have been a small caliber handgun. Amazingly no injuries were reported. The damage happened in Deltona, DeLand, Ormond Beach, and Daytona Beach.

SpaceX Scrubs Friday Night Launch

(Cape Canaveral, FL) -- SpaceX's first launch of the new year is being pushed back. Tonight's scheduled liftoff from Cape Canaveral has been scrubbed due to bad weather expected in the area. When it eventually goes up, the Falcon 9 rocket will carry 60 Starlink Internet communications satellites into orbit. The next target date is no earlier than Monday night.

Nanny Needed For 18-Year-Old Law Student

(Leeds, England) -- A new online ad is proving you're never too old for a nanny. A mother is urgently looking for part-time help for her 18-year-old daughter. She posted the teen is a first-year law student in England with an intense study schedule. She wants someone to cook and ensure she eats three healthy meals, also to clean the two-bedroom apartment. The ads even says the person needs to have at least a year of babysitting experience.

Doctor Saves Dog's Life

(Tampa, FL) -- A Tampa pet owner can thank a doctor for being in the right place at the right time to save her dog. Dr. Mohammed Awad was in the lobby of the Olympus Harbor Island Apartment Sunday night after a woman and a dog got off the elevator. The dog's leash got caught in the elevator doors when they closed and the dog was yanked up in the air as the elevator went up. Surveillance video shows Dr. Awad rushing to the dog, removing its collar and saving its life in what Dr. Awad tells News Channel 8 was a close call.
