Man Opens Fire in Georgia Walmart, Then Turned The Gun On Himself

A 19-year-old man is dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound after he opened fire inside a Georgia Walmart early Saturday morning.

The Waycross Police Department says the gunman, who was identified as 19-year-old John Jaylen Walker Kinnitt of Waycross, walked into the store located on Memorial Drive at around 1 a.m. Saturday morning and started shooting. As reports of the active shooter came in, police arrived at the store within a minute of being dispatched and immediately began searching for the gunman, finding him within seconds.

"Officers located the shooter within seconds, at which time he turned the handgun on himself, and delivered a self-inflicted gunshot wound," the Waycross Police Department said.

The shooter was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead at around 3 a.m. local time, police said.

There were a number of workers and customers in the store at the time of the shooting, all of whom were evacuated safely, police said. No injuries were reported.

One witness, told CBS 47 that people began scrambling, trying to get out of the store when they heard shots being fired.

Detectives say they do not have a motive for the shooting at this time and that the investigation is on-going.
