City Commissioner Scott Maddox pleaded guilty this week to federal corruption charges, and Governor Ron DeSantis may remove him from office. DeSantis suspended Maddox from the commission after he was indicted, and state law allows him to remove any local official from office once they are convicted. Pinellas County Sheriff Bob Gualtierri says its working extremely well and has prevented violence. The law lets a judge take away a person's guns for up to a year if they have made credible threats. From March of 2018 up until this month, over 17-hundred people have had their weapons taken away temporarily by a court.
Dogs Denied Access To Beaches In Wildlife Refuge
(Titusville, FL) -- Some dog owners are disappointed with a ruling by the Brevard County Commission. A request to allow dogs on some beaches in the Archie Carr National Wildlife Refuge was rejected this week. Commissioners said they were concerned about the potential environmental harm that could come from owners not picking up after their dogs. Some dog owners told commissioners they wish the board had been willing to discuss a compromise.
Pit Bulls Attack Man In Volusia County
(DeLand, FL) -- A man is hurt after a morning walk led to a vicious dog attack in Volusia County. DeLand's Donald Bobble was bitten by at least two pit bulls yesterday morning while walking on South Thompson Ave, but the 60-year-old is expected to survive. The owner of the dogs was cited for allowing them to run loose. Animal control seized three adult pit bulls and 12 puppies from a home on West Beresford Ave.
Four Charged In Oyster Theft
(Pensacola, FL) -- A company in Escambia County is celebrating what it calls amazing news. The Pensacola Bay Oyster Company announced yesterday the FWC arrested four people for stealing about 40-thousand of the company's oysters last month in East Bay. The suspects include a mother and son from Milton. The oyster company's owner says he's relieved the arrests have been made, and he's grateful for the FWC's tireless work on the case.
Gun Show To Go On Despite Concerns
(Pembroke Pines, FL) -- A controversial event will go on as planned in Broward County despite concerns from residents. The Florida Gun Show is set for this weekend in Pembroke Pines at a public venue, and some neighbors yesterday called on the city commission to cancel the show. Commissioners, though, say they have a contract and voiding it could lead to lawsuits. The show's organizer tells CBS 4 News background checks will be conducted on every gun that changes hands.
Woman Accused Of Stealing Ambulance
(Phoenix, AZ) -- A woman is under arrest for allegedly stealing a Phoenix Fire Department ambulance yesterday and leading police officers on a chase. Police claim 29-year-old Kimberly Vasich climbed a fence at a city fire station and drove off in the ambulance. They say when officers spotted the ambulance near 12th Avenue and Madison, she refused to stop. Spike strips were deployed, and police say she eventually crashed the ambulance into a chain link fence a short distance away, where she was taken into custody.
