At Least Nine People Killed in Hawaii Plane Crash, Officials Say

Nine people were killed after their twin engine aircraft crashed in Hawaii, authorities said on Friday.

The aircraft went down near Dillingham Airfield in Oahu, Honolulu Fire Department Chief Manuel Neves told reporters Friday evening. He said the plane was ablaze when fire crews arrived on scene, near the airfield's fence line, away from the runway, the Honolulu Star-Advertiser reported.

“With extreme sadness HDOT reports there were 9 souls on board the King Air twin engine plane that went down near Dillingham Airfield with no apparent survivors,” the Hawaii Department of Transportation said in a tweet.

The passengers' names are known to authorities, but have not been released pending notification of family members, he added. The department dispatched at least 14 units and 39 personnel to the scene around 6:24 p.m. who were able to bring the fire under control about 20 minutes after their arrival.

Honolulu police said the first reports of the crash came in around 6:20 p.m.

“We’re still gathering information on the intent of the flight,” Honolulu Fire Department Chief Manuel Neves said
