WHY MEXICO IS BETTER TO WORK WITH THAN CONGRESS

Put yourself in President Trump’s shoes. You are charged with running a country, but it takes the action of congress to accomplish most things. In congress one house is managed by the opposition party and none of your initiatives have a chance. The other is managed by your own party, but many of them are openly hostile toward you and few of your initiatives have a chance there, either.

That got me to thinking over the weekend. If you were the president would you rather work with congress or the government of Mexico? Think about it:

Congress: seeks political advantage and plays the media against your positions.

Mexico: understands the value in partnership in working together toward mutually beneficial goals.

Congress: members will meet with you, but publicly trash you before and after.

Mexico: meets with you and your administration, believing you are sincere in seeking solutions and serious in consequences of inaction.

Congress: publicly floats its own agenda as a counter to yours before the first meeting takes place.

Mexico: listens to what you have to say and publicly states it hopes to work out a solution.

Congress: has a press that is willing to help them undermine you.

Mexico: has a press that reports what it does as opposed to participating in its efforts.

Congress: has bungled opportunities to act on immigration issues for decades.

Mexico: when faced with your threat of economic sanction, takes decisive action to stop certain migrants and agrees to your terms to avoid tariffs.

Given those comparisons, who wouldn’t prefer working with Mexico over the United States Congress?
