House Democrats Introduce Contempt Resolution For Attorney General Barr

Democrats in the House of Representatives have introduced a resolution to hold Attorney General William Barr and former White House counsel Don McGahn in contempt of Congress for refusing to comply with congressional subpoenas relating to their investigation of the Mueller Report.

Judiciary Chairman Jerrold Nadler subpoenaed Barr for an unredacted copy of the Mueller Report and all the underlying investigative material in April. The Justice Department has refused to turn it over to Congress because it contains grand jury testimony and could compromise ongoing investigations.

McGahn was subpoenaed to testify in front of Congress on May 21 but did not show up on the order of the White House. The Justice Department issued a legal opinion arguing that as a former official, McGahn is immune from compelled congressional testimony.

The resolution allows Rep. Nadler to seek civil subpoenas to compel both men to comply with the Congressional demands.
