Five high school students were hurt after a gust of wind picked up the giant inflatable they were playing on and flipped it over. The terrifying incident happened at Zillah High School in Washington State on Wednesday (May 1) afternoon during an event on the school's football field.
The five students were tethered to the inflatable when a "strong whirlwind" lifted it about 20 feet into the air and carried it around 240 feet before dropping it back onto the ground.
Zillah mayor Scott Carmack told reporters that one of the students had to be airlifted to the hospital and is in critical condition, while the others suffered minor injuries. He said that one of the injuries may have occurred before the bounce house was lifted into the air.
Cell phone video showed a group of people rushing over to the inflatable and trying to flip it over after it crashed onto the school's track. Carmack said that a staff member began administering CPR on one of the injured girls until paramedics arrived at the scene.
Officials are investigating the accident and are unsure if the inflatable was tethered to the ground at the time.
