Former Miss Teen Universe Dies Of Heart Attack At Age 20

Lotte van der Zee was a model and beauty queen from the Netherlands who went on to win the Miss Teen Universe pageant in 2017. A few weeks ago, she was on a ski trip in Austria, vacationing with her parents. The day before her 20th birthday, Lotte suffered a severe heart attack that put her in a coma for two weeks. Sadly, she did not awaken from it and on Wednesday, she passed away.

After her death, Lotte's parents wrote on their daughter's Instagram page, sharing the sad news with her 161 thousand followers. In the emotional post they said:

Our pearl, our everything passed away on Wednesday evening March 6th at 22:47. It is incredibly surreal that our dearly beloved Lotte is not around us anymore. Our hearts are truly broken💔
We would like to thank you all again for all the support and heartwarming messages.

Van der Zee's parents also spoke with a Dutch newspaper, explaining that the day before she fell ill, Lotte returned to the ski resort from a night out with friends cheerful and "without any health complaints." However, the next morning, it was clear she was not well. Lotte didn't come down for breakfast and her parents found her sick in her bed. According to them, the illness "swiftly escalated in sudden cardiac arrest" and Lotte was rushed to a hospital. Doctors put her in a medically induced coma and transferred her to a specialist hospital in Munich, Germany. However, her organs began to fail and she was unable to recover.

Tests are still being performed to determine what caused Lotte's heart attack.
