Protests Planned For Presidents Day Over National Emergency Declaration

Many Americans are taking to the streets on Presidents Day to protest an action taken by the current occupant of the Oval Office. Hundreds of protests are planned across the country over President Trump's declaration of a national emergency along the border with Mexico. Critics have accused the President of abusing his power to fulfill a campaign promise. The President has said there is a national security and humanitarian crisis along that border and he has the constitutional authority to take action to correct it. Past Presidents have issued executive orders from time to time when Congress was not supportive of an executive branch agenda including Barack Obama's Deferred Action For Childhood Arrivals decree from 2010 also known as DACA and the Dream Act. Dating back to Jimmy Carter's administration, every President has issued national emergency executive orders for a variety of reasons, some of which are still in effect today.
