New Florida Governor To Be Sworn In Today (Tallahassee, FL) -- Ron DeSantis will be sworn-in as Florida's governor today. The inauguration will take place around noon on the Capitol steps. DeSantis will be the state's 46th governor.

Man Accused Of Painting Swastikas Near UCF Says He Was "Mistreated" Due To German Heritage  (Orlando, FL) -- More information is being released about the man accused of defacing buildings in the area of University of Central Florida. Michael Ill told deputies he was an orphan adopted by a Jewish couple and then mistreated in his childhood because of his German heritage. The 25-year-old allegedly spray painted swastikas and anti-Semitic slurs on businesses and apartment buildings along Alafaya Trail and University Boulevard on Christmas Day.

Hollywood Nursing Home Where Residents Died After Irma Gets License Revoked  (Hollywood, FL) -- The state is revoking a Hollywood nursing home's license. The Agency for Health Care Administration issued a final order Friday to revoke the license in agreeance with an administrative law judge's recommendation. Twelve people died at the Rehabilitation Center at Hollywood Hills after Hurricane Irma in 2017.

Panama City Looking At Incentives To Attract New Businesses  (Panama City, FL) -- The Panama City Downtown Improvement Board is looking at offering new incentives to revitalize several vacant storefronts in the city. At a meeting held last night, the board discussed ways to bring new businesses to fill vacant buildings in the area. City leaders say the downtown district is cleaned up but still recovering from Hurricane Michael and the city is proposing offering temporary periods of free rent and issuing move-in stipends to get business owners to return. The board said it hopes to have a strategic plan in place to begin implementing the urban development projects in the next few weeks.

First Ever Cat DNA Kit At CES  (Las Vegas, NV) -- Pet owners can now purchase the first-ever Kitty DNA testing kit. The feline test will be displayed this week at the Consumer Electronics Show in las Vegas. Basepaws' test kit gives a genetic breakdown of the cat, telling owners what breed makes up the cat's DNA, along with any wild cat genes that may be a part of the mix. Anna Skaya, Basepaws' founder and CEO, says they hope the findings for cats can be as helpful as they were for human.

Man Creates App To Lock Teen's Phone Until They Answer Parents Texts  (Undated) -- Parents who are frequently annoyed with their child's lack of response to texts may benefit from a new app. ReplyASAP was created by a dad in order to ensure a timely response from parents who may be worried or concerned. The app can freeze a child's phone and even sound an alarm while the phone is in silent mode, forcing them to reply to the parents before the other functions on the phone are released. It launched on Google Play in August 2017 and already has over 75-thousand downloads.

Moose Walks Into Hospital, Starts Eating In The Atrium  (Anchorage, AK) -- A moose is escaping the cold by walking into an Alaska hospital. The moose was strolling by the Alaska Regional Hospital before noon Monday on a day of sub-zero temperatures, according to the Anchorage Daily News. It apparently saw some green plants in the atrium and strolled in for a taste. She stayed for about 10 minutes, but as the crowd of people grew to watch her, she decided that was enough and walked back out the same sliding doors. Security personnel quickly locked the doors behind it. Spectators say the moose didn't seem to care for the plants, which are more often found in Florida than Alaska.
