The Week's MICKnuggets! 'Tis the Season!

12.17.18- Doing the Most Good!

Today was my day to ring the bell for the Salvation Army.  Jorge Medina, Alphonso Zilch and I were at the Publix on Babcock and Hibiscus from 10am –noon.  As always, it was a great experience.

Those red kettles that we have all been seeing most of our lives are the most visible fundraiser for the Army and the money stays in our community.

These kettles will be in place through Christmas Eve and as you make your holiday shopping travels, remember to stop and lend a hand to those who may not have things as good the rest of us.

Do the community a favor…as you finish your holiday errands, be sure to have some change or even dollar bills on you and make a point to stop by the red kettle every time you see one.

You won’t miss that money and it will help many in the community that can surely use that help.

The Salvation Army- doing the most good, but only with your help!

12.18.18- Could you do this?

I’m not sure even I could do this, but for $100,000 it may be worth a try.

VitaminWater is soliciting applicants to an interesting test of will and connectivity.  The company will select one lucky contestant to give up smart phone connectivity for a year.  If the contestant is successful the $100 grand is theirs.

Could you do it?  No Facebook, Instagram or other social media, no news on demand, no interaction like we have all made part of our daily lives would be tough.  Yet, it’s tempting.

There is some consolation should the contestant make it only half way- $10,000 for attaining the 6 month mark. If you go half way, the other half is worth $90 grand!

I don’t know about you, but I do about half of my work on my smartphone.  I do most of my at home communication on it and it’s a lifeline to my family and friends.

I wish them luck finding a winner.

12.19.18- Changing Santa?

Everything is changing in our society and not for the better.  It was only a matter of time before Santa hit the list.

A survey taken in Great Britain and the USA asked about changes people would make to Chris Cringle if they could do so.  The results are…interesting.

For Santa’s transportation some would place him in a flying car, an electric car, a limousine, on a hoverboard or using Amazon Prime.  Fortunately nearly 58% said none of the above.  Otherwise what happens to the reindeer?

To modernize the jolly ole elf some would have him looking younger or with a tattoo, a shave, a new hairstyle and drinking beer.  Over 73% turned those ideas down.

As for gender over 10% would make Santa a she, over 18% would make Father Christmas gender neutral (of course) and thankfully more than 70% of us would keep him a him!

Lucky for Santa the iPhone, sneakers and dreadlocks are out, too!

There are just times that traditions need to be upheld.
