Lockdown Ordered At Rollins College After Shooting (Winter Park, FL) -- A shooting is responsible for a lockdown at an Orange County college. The shooting happened yesterday in Winter Park on Orange Ave near Rollins College.
Everyone at the college was told to shelter in place as police looked for the gunman, who was identified as 19-year-old Jared Vasquez. He was not found, but police believe he was far enough away from the school that the lockdown was lifted after two hours.
NSB Man Survives Bear Attack (New Smyrna Beach, FL) -- A Volusia County man is alive after a hunting trip went horribly wrong. New Smyrna Beach's Corey Chubon was hunting in Wyoming last week when two grizzly bears attacked him and his guide.
Chubon says one bear grabbed him and swung him around before he was able to escape and run away. Chubon's guide was killed, though, and he leaves behind a wife and five children.
Dad Surprises Kids In Return From Afghanistan (Indialantic, FL) -- What began as a normal start of the school week will likely go down as one of the most memorable days ever for three boys in Indialantic. After classes started at Indialantic's Holy Name of Jesus Catholic School yesterday, the students, including three whose dad was in Afghanistan, were called to an assembly.
Then Air Force Major Jay Longmire snuck up behind his three sons and surprised them with his return home. To top off the great day, Florida Today reports the school allowed Longmire take his kids out of class early.
Bystander Pulls Deputy From Overturned Cruiser (Gulf Breeze, FL) -- A Santa Rosa County man is being called the human Jaws of Life for his actions after a crash. Gulf Breeze 22-year-old Sam Davilmar last week saw Deputy Steve Clark stuck in his overturned cruiser after a crash on Gulf Breeze Parkway.
Davilmar was able to pry open the door of the cruiser and allow Clark to get out. Clark's daughter reached out to Davilmar to thank him, but Davilmar tells the News Journal he's just grateful that God put him in the right place at the right time.
SpaceX To Send Japanese Billionaire To Moon On Big Falcon Rocket (Hawthorne, CA) -- SpaceX CEO Elon Musk is revealing the identity of its first moon tourist. In a livestream Monday, Musk says Yusaku Maezawa [[ yoo-SAK-oo may-ZOW-ah ]] will travel around the moon on the Big Falcon Rocket in 2023.
Maezawa, a Japanese billionaire, said he wants to go to the moon because he wants to contribute to world peace. As part of his #dearMoon project, Maezawa is inviting six to eight artists to go with him on his four to five day journey to the moon in 2023.
Top 20 Most Fun Cities In America (Undated) -- WalletHub released its 2018 Most Fun Cities in America report. They compared more than 180 cities in the country looking at a variety of factors like fitness clubs per capita, movie costs and average open hours of breweries.
Based on their review WalletHub ranked Las Vegas at the top of the list, followed by Orlando New York, Atlanta and Miami. At the bottom of the pack is Pearl City, Hawaii.
