Police Identify Gunman In Mass Shooting At Florida Video Game Tournament

Florida police have identified the man who opened fire during a video game tournament being held at a restaurant in Jacksonville Landing. 24-year-old David Katz opened fire using a semiautomatic handgun, killing two people and wounding nine others before taking his own life. Two people were also hurt as they tried to escape the chaotic scene. Authorities said that Katz acted alone. They have not released his motive for the shooting.

One witness told the Tampa Bay Times that Katz became angry after he lost, went to his car to get a gun, came back inside and "started blasting everybody."

The FBI raided Katz's Baltimore home looking for clues as to what set off the young man. They said Katz had traveled to Florida for the tournament. He won the Madden 17 Bills Championship in February 2017 and was described by a commentator from a previous tournament as "all business."

"Man, David Katz keeps to himself. He's a man of business. Here's not here for the experience... He's not here to make friends. He's all business, he's focused. To even get him to open up to you to talk about anything is like pulling teeth."
