Senator Feinstein Fails To Win Party Endorsement

The California Democratic Party is turning its back on veteran incumbent Senator Dianne Feinstein. The party's executive board voted overwhelmingly this weekend to endorse Feinstein's challenger, state Senator Kevin de Leon, in the upcoming November midterm election.  De Leon is the more progressive of the two candidates, but he remains a longshot to unseat Feinstein.  Feinstein won California's jungle primary last month, earning over 30% more votes than Leon.  But de Leon will face Feinstein in the midterm because in California the top 2 vote-getters advance regardless of political party.

The 85-year-old Feinstein has served in the U.S. Senate since 1992.
